Albardón Department: Winegrowing and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Albardón Department
Winegrowing, religious architectural history and guided tours give Albardón Department its varied character. The places and experiences range from a winery with cellar tours to chapels with histories of their own and walks that explore culture, geology and agriculture.
Winegrowing and Regional Cuisine
Bodega El Milagro began operating in Albardón in 2002. Its owner acquired vineyards there to produce artisanal wines. Its offerings include guided cellar tours and product tastings. The winery also has a delicatessen, a ham-curing room and an ecumenical space. If you plan to take a tour or tasting, check the reservation arrangements before you arrive.
The gastronomic experience “Sabores entre albardas” showcases local restaurants registered with the Tourism and Culture Office, as well as regional flavors. Participating restaurants and arrangements may change, so check the current offerings in advance.
Chapels and Cultural History
Capilla San Nicolás de Tolentino is located in Las Lomitas and is part of the cultural and natural heritage of San Juan Province. It was built in 1912 and rebuilt in 1942. Its colonial architecture combines adobe bricks, reeds, mud and roundwood. Its furnishings include an altarpiece from the Basílica de Santo Domingo, which was destroyed in the 1944 earthquake.
Capilla en Honor a San Roque is also part of the cultural and natural heritage of San Juan Province; it is located in La Cañada. Its history dates back to 1913, when residents of La Cañada built an oratory in the Albardón area. Gruta de la Virgen de Lourdes de las Siete Vertientes was established in 2007 with contributions from the Albardón community and worshippers from other places.
Capilla Artesanal Virgen de la Carrodilla offers a different blend of faith and local craftsmanship. It was built by local residents and designed by Juan Diapolo, a local winemaker and sculptor. The chapel houses the patron saint of vineyards. From a distance, its original design resembles a pink-painted boat.
Parroquia Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados is the patron church of Albardón Department and is located in Villa General San Martín. Cultural history can also be traced at Complejo Cultural Cine Teatro Albardon: the venue opened in 1950 under the name Cine Aconcagua and is still located opposite the department square.
A dedicated religious tourism route covers the department’s main religious attractions. It provides a thematic framework for the different chapels and churches, although they do not all share the same architectural history.
Guided Walks and Routes
Bici Tour offers cultural, scenic, geological and scientific walks through Albardón, accompanied by specialized guides. These include a walk through the town center, where visitors learn about its history and culture. The eastern route, “Iniciación a la Vitivinicultura,” focuses on irrigation and farming systems as well as winegrowing, and includes visits to two wineries with tastings of regional products.
The western route leads to the areas of Las Tapias and El Rincón. Its historical and tourism tour covers mining, agriculture and livestock farming, as well as cultural and religious viewpoints and the San Martín campaign. The eastern and western routes therefore have different focuses: winegrowing and cultivation on one, history and several economic and cultural areas on the other. Confirm the route and provider in advance.
Geology and Creative Experiences
The active La Laja fault is visible to the naked eye on the hill. The ground fracture shows the displacement of two large rock structures of different geological ages. Alongside its historic sites, Albardón thus offers a geological point of interest that can be seen directly in the landscape.
Cinco Elementos invites visitors to a family-run venue. The experience includes an underground ceramics workshop and an art and sculpture experience based on clay, in close contact with nature. Reservations are required.
