Nahuel Huapi National Park includes, among other places, the localities of Villa Mascardi and Villa Traful. Many of the relevant trails, beaches, and visitor facilities are in the surrounding area, not in the localities themselves. When planning, it is therefore helpful to distinguish the exact location of a destination, as well as trail length, surface, and water level.
Orientation and Trail Access
There is an A.C.A. gas station opposite Villa Mascardi. About 300 meters after passing through Villa Mascardi, at the turnoff to Cascada Los Alerces, there is a park ranger station, an entrance fee collection point, tourist information, and restrooms. The cycling route along Lago Guillelmo starts at a bridge; an approximately two-kilometer gravel road leads to it, and there is space to park vehicles at the bridge.
Cycling and Lakeside Trails
The cycling route along Lago Guillelmo follows the eastern shore on the old alignment of Ruta Nacional 40. The one-way route is about eight kilometers long, offers lake views for much of the way, and ends at the southern end of the lake on a wide shore. The trail is considered easy, but it is rocky in places; it is recommended to ride slowly and always wear a helmet. Route conditions may change seasonally.
At BahĂa Mansa, a paved path follows the old alignment of the road to El BolsĂłn for 400 meters to a sandy beach on Lago Guillelmo; pedestrians and cyclists share it. In terms of distance, this is a much shorter section than the approximately eight-kilometer cycling route along the lake.
Camping and Changing Trail Conditions
Campamento Playa Huinca on Lago Guillelmo has a camping area, restrooms, showers, a supply store, and a boat ramp. Current operations may vary, so check conditions before your visit. Day trips and fishing are also possible at nearby Lago Guillelmo.
On the route from Arroyo Fresco to Playa Leones, the trail route depends on the water level: when the water is low, the trail runs along the shore of Lago Mascardi; when the water is high, the forest trail is used. A 300-meter boardwalk leads to a viewpoint at Cascada Los Alerces. Access conditions may vary seasonally, so check them before your visit.
The trail at Los Rápidos is suitable for birdwatching and has only a gentle incline. The Cerro Tronador area is visited every year by people interested in mountains, climbing, and fishing. Beyond Villa Mascardi, the route to Cerro Tronador turns right and passes through native forests.
