When choosing a hotel in Goya Department, it helps to decide what you want to focus on during your stay. In the city of Goya, historic churches, theaters and museums are the main cultural attractions; the Río Paraná, the Riacho Goya and the wetlands offer a different perspective. Fishing trips and the Fiesta Nacional del Surubí are also part of the picture. The options therefore range from urban culture to full-day excursions and special multi-day programs.

Historic Buildings and Museums

The Iglesia Catedral was inaugurated in 1884. It houses Nuestra Sra. del Rosario, the city's patron saint. The Iglesia de San Roque y San Jacinto, known as La Rotonda, is designated a site of national historic interest. The Sociedad Italiana de Socorros Mutuos and the Club Social Argentino are also designated national historic monuments. The city's historic landmarks thus range from the cathedral to two social institutions.

The Teatro Solari is considered Argentina's oldest municipal theater; the city government describes it as still in operation. Its auditorium is horseshoe-shaped and has a main floor, lower boxes and two upper tiers. Museums in Goya include the Museo temático de la Policía and the Museo en memoria del Monseñor Devoto. The Museo de la Ciudad is housed in the former railway station and features an exhibition on the urban anthropology of the entire region. The Museo San Martiniano is located in the former Hotel de los Inmigrantes, on the grounds of the army regiment.

Plaza Mitre, the Costanera and the bathing area

Plaza Mitre is Goya's main square. At its center stand the Pirámide de la Libertad, a replica of the Parisian pyramid, and the Madre Patria statue. The Costanera de Goya runs parallel to the Riacho Goya and offers sweeping views of the Paraná river system. Its features include green spaces, monuments, viewpoints, and dining and recreation areas. Sports activities, craft markets, cultural festivals and open-air events take place there throughout the year.

Playa El Ingá lies on the Riacho Goya and is considered the city's main bathing area. The bathing season is in summer. Check current access arrangements before visiting.

Island nature and guided trails

Isla Las Damas is a nature reserve covering more than 1,400 hectares. It lies 250 meters off the coast of Goya. Riverside forests, inland lagoons, marshes, wetlands and natural bluffs shape the landscape. Carayá monkeys, capybaras, caimans and more than 100 bird species live on the Islas de las Damas. You can reach the island by boat from the Costanera; guided interpretive trails pass through the wetlands and introduce visitors to their biodiversity. Guaraní legends and culture are also part of the interpretation. Confirm current visitor arrangements with Goya Tourism.

Fishing and nature watching

Fishing trips in Goya travel through natural channels, streams, sandbanks, lagoons and wetlands along the Paraná. These landscapes provide favorable conditions for fish species to reproduce. Trips are offered as half-day excursions, full-day excursions or special multi-day programs. This lets you tailor the time commitment to your planned stay, rather than automatically making fishing a multi-day focus. Tours catch Surubí, Dorado, Pacú, Manguruyú, Armado and other river fish under conservation and catch-and-release rules.

Festival and getting there

The Fiesta Nacional del Surubí brings together sport, performances, gastronomy and culture over five days; specific arrangements may change. It is usually held in late April or early May, though the exact dates may vary. Hundreds of boats set off simultaneously on the Río Paraná; this boat launch is considered the highlight of the event. If you plan to include the festival in your trip, check the dates in advance.

The traditional Peña del Surubí brings participants in the fishing competition together for a gathering with music and gastronomy. Before the competition, more than 4,000 anglers celebrate a camaraderie fair featuring food and music.
