In Salsipuedes, nature conservation and cultural heritage are distinct themes that sit side by side. The municipality is home to a municipal protected area; religious traditions, historic sacred sites, a house museum and an archaeological complex also form part of the town’s profile. If you choose a destination based on your interests in nature or culture, these highlights can guide your decision. You can reach Salsipuedes by car via Ruta E53.

Natural Environment and Biodiversity

The Reserva HĂdrica y Natural Municipal Salsipuedes is designated as a protected reserve within the municipality by municipal ordinance. It protects the RĂo Salsipuedes watershed and strengthens the biogeographic connectivity of the serrano Chaco forest. Animal species typical of this forest found in the reserve include overo lizards, brown brocket deer and peccaries.

The area’s natural significance therefore encompasses both the protection of a watershed and the connectivity of the forest, as well as its characteristic wildlife. For travelers who factor nature into their choice of destination, the reserve is the specific point of reference in Salsipuedes.

Religious Tradition and Cultural History

The celebration of the Virgen de la Candelaria in Paraje Rural La Estancita is a living tradition connected to local identity. Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Rosario del Milagro was built in 1860. Also in La Estancita, within the Reserva Hídrica y Natural Municipal Salsipuedes, stands Capilla Santo Tomas de Aquino, dating from 1870.

In Villa Silvina, Gruta Virgen de Itatí is located on the banks of the Río Salsipuedes; it has been declared a site of municipal interest. The Los Morteros archaeological complex represents the heritage of the Comechingón peoples in the region. Alongside religious traditions and historic buildings, the town’s cultural themes thus include Indigenous history and archaeological heritage.

La Joyita, the house museum of tango singer Ada FalcĂłn, preserves documents, recordings, photographs and other items belonging to the singer. This focus differs from that of the sacred sites and Los Morteros: it centers on materials associated with Ada FalcĂłn.

Viewpoints and Getting There

The Mirador de Villa Silvina is a 30-meter-high concrete structure. The viewpoint and the Virgen Nuestra Señora del Valle grotto are located on a hill in Barrio El Pueblito. They were inaugurated in 1994 and can be reached by car or on foot via the Stations of the Cross. Viewpoints are therefore part of the town’s profile, alongside its natural and cultural heritage.
