Discover Epuyén: Hotels for Your Stay
Accommodation in Epuyén
Epuyén is part of the Comarca Andina del Paralelo 42°. Lago Epuyén is the town’s main attraction and is located within Parque Municipal Puerto Bonito. Reserva Natural de Usos Múltiples Lago Epuyén focuses on this glacial lake, which is suitable for water sports. The lake and water activities, hiking trails, culture, and agrotourism offer different points of interest.
Lake, Park, and Archaeological Site
There are several specific places to visit within Parque Municipal Puerto Bonito. Lago Epuyén is located within the park, as is Piedra Pintada, an archaeological site on the slope of Cerro Pilche, also known as Cerro Epuyén. The park therefore brings together the lake as its main attraction and an archaeological site. At Piedra Pintada, the archaeological significance takes center stage; its position on the slope also places the site within the park’s landscape.
Hiking Trails with Different Points of Interest
Along Lago Epuyén, Sendero de las Playas passes three beaches designated for recreation. Sendero La Condorera offers something different: panoramic views of the lake and opportunities to observe Andean condors. The two trails therefore differ both in the landscape features described and in what you can look out for along the way.
Information about duration and difficulty can also help with planning. Sendero Bahía El Desafío begins at Parking Lot No. 1 in Parque Municipal Puerto Bonito. It is of moderate difficulty, and the hike to the destination takes one hour. Sendero Arroyo Las Minas is 1,000 meters long and can only be used on foot or by bicycle. More challenging and considerably more time-consuming is Sendero La Condorera: the round trip to the viewpoint is estimated to take seven hours. When comparing these times, note that the one hour for Bahía El Desafío refers to the hike to the destination, while the seven hours for La Condorera covers the round trip.
Culture, Crafts, and Local Experiences
Centro Cultural Antu Quillen is located in Parque Municipal Puerto Bonito and has provided Epuyén with a space for culture and tourism for more than 20 years. Another cultural landmark is Stupa Samanthabadra, built according to Buddhist teachings and traditions. Visitors can meditate there and walk clockwise around the stupa; please observe the site’s guidance. The two places represent different aspects of Epuyén’s culture.
Crafts and local products are also among the experiences described. Encuentro Provincial de Artesanos takes place every year on the third weekend of January. Craftspeople from across the country exhibit and sell their work there. The specific program may vary; if your visit coincides with that weekend, check the dates and the program for that year. Epuyén also offers guided visits to workshops producing handmade preserves as part of its agrotourism. The town’s landscape and hiking attractions thus complement its cultural and craft-related offerings.
