Discover Cadaval: Hotels and the Vinho Leve Festival
Accommodation in Cadaval
Cadaval is surrounded by vineyards and orchards; agriculture remains its main economic activity. This offers several concrete starting points for planning your trip: an annual festival celebrating gastronomy and Vinho Leve, trails and outdoor activities in the surrounding area, and cultural sites in and near the town. You can choose Cadaval based on whichever focus best suits your stay.
Wine and the annual festival
The Festa das Adiafas e Festival Nacional do Vinho Leve is held annually in Cadaval. The programme includes gastronomy, exhibitions, performances and equestrian activities. The festival thus brings together different types of events rather than focusing solely on wine. The exact dates change from year to year; if you want to plan your trip around it, check the event dates in advance.
The Festival Nacional do Vinho Leve features tastings and sales of the Vinho Leve ranges offered by several regional wineries. Which wineries take part varies. For wine enthusiasts, this is a distinct aspect of the festival: alongside the food and cultural programme, the wines of the participating producers take centre stage. Keep the changing line-up in mind when planning, rather than counting on a particular winery or range.
Walking trails and nature nearby
The Estação da Biodiversidade de Montejunto is located near Cadaval. The circular trail is 1.8 kilometres long and has eight panels about biodiversity. Its length and panels give the route a clearly defined theme: biodiversity is the focus here. The circular route sets this specific trail apart from a simple list of possible activities.
There are four signposted walking trails in the Serra de Montejunto. Hiking, mountain biking, climbing, birdwatching, paragliding and hang gliding are also listed as activities there. The range of activities therefore goes beyond walking. If you mainly want to explore on foot, you can use the 1.8-kilometre circular trail and the signposted walking trails as distinct points of reference when planning. Check that the trails are available before you travel.
Cultural sites in and near Cadaval
The Núcleo Museológico do Moinho das Castanholas is in the town of Cadaval and is associated with a mill. The Cadaval Museum has been in existence since 2002; in 2015, it moved to the town library building. The two dates mark different parts of its history: 2002 marks the museum’s founding, and 2015 its move to the library building.
The Real Fábrica do Gelo is also located near Cadaval. The industrial complex was classified as a National Monument in 1997 and is a technological facility for producing natural ice that is unique in Portugal. This offers a different way to explore the area than its walking trails and outdoor activities: here, the focus is on industrial history and the production of natural ice.
