Polanow: Discover glacial erratics, a church and events
Accommodation in Polanow
Polanow can be explored through several distinct highlights: geological exhibits, a central church, lakeside recreation and events. When choosing a hotel, it may help to decide in advance whether you want to explore the town mainly through its sights, its recreational options or a particular event. The following topics offer different perspectives on Polanow, from local features to dated events.
Glacial Erratics and Church Architecture
There are 22 glacial erratic exhibits at Park Petrograficzny w Polanowie; the park presents the subject of glacial erratics. Information about their origin, composition and structure offers three distinct aspects of the topic: it draws attention to the stones’ origins, characteristics and arrangement. The park is located on the provincial road from Polanów to Bobolice. This connects its thematic focus with a specific location.
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Wniebowzięcia NMP) is in the heart of Polanow and is visible from all access roads. Its central location makes it a landmark; its architecture offers another perspective: the church dates from the 18th century and has a Neo-Gothic altar. This brings together spatial orientation and two specific architectural features.
Getting Around and Recreation
The Centrum Przesiadkowe in Polanow adds practical infrastructure to the town’s orientation options. It has an information point, a waiting room, luggage storage and bicycle parking. These facilities meet different needs: getting information, waiting, storing luggage or parking a bicycle.
The landscaped area around Lake Kacze serves residents and tourists as a place for recreation and leisure. This focus relates to the lake’s surroundings and differs from the glacial erratic exhibits or the church building. The reference to residents and tourists includes both groups in the use of the area for recreation and leisure.
Events with Different Connections to the Town
The Orszak Trzech Króli has been held in Polanow since 2013. Its three-kilometre route runs from Polanow to Święta Góra Polanowska, also known as Polanowskie Betlejem. The programme includes live music, a street theatre Nativity play and communal Christmas carol singing. The route and programme offer different points of reference: the route describes the journey, while the music, theatre and communal singing convey the nature of the event.
At Kaszubski Odpust 2022, the pilgrimage traditionally began at the figure of Saint Otto in Polanow. This starting point differs from the Orszak’s connection to the town: there, the three-kilometre route leads to Święta Góra Polanowska; for the pilgrimage, the traditional starting point is identified as the figure of Saint Otto. The two religious events can therefore be distinguished by their respective routes.
The XXXVI Międzynarodowy Zlot Motocykli nad Zalewem 2026 took place in Polanow from 10 to 12 July 2026. This edition included a traditional motorcycle parade through Polanow, as well as demonstrations and rides on a motocross track. The parade and motocross track were two distinct parts of this dated event.
