Dźwirzyno Beach is a broad, sandy stretch of coastline bordered by dunes and a pine forest. It is ideal for walks and relaxing in the shade. During the swimming season, there are lifeguarded sections of beach, food stalls, changing rooms and toilets. Some access points have been adapted for pushchairs and people with reduced mobility.

Landscape and Nature in the Gmina Kołobrzeg

The landscape of the Gmina Kołobrzeg ranges from coastal dunes and pine forests to peat bogs, meadows, salt marshes and river valleys. Its plant life is also diverse: more than 700 species of vascular plants have been recorded in the gmina, including many protected species. This makes the region interesting for travellers who want to explore different types of landscape as well as the beach.

The raised bogs around Dźwirzyno and Grzybowo are covered with peat mosses and marsh vegetation; insectivorous plants also grow there. These bog habitats add a distinctive element to the open coastal landscape. Together with meadows, salt marshes and river valleys, they shape the gmina’s varied natural environment.

Harbour, Routes and Activities

Dźwirzyno Harbour was formerly a fishing harbour and is now used for fishing and tourism. Activities suited to the harbour include coastal sailing, fishing trips and boat excursions at sea. A modern bridge over the channel between Jezioro Resko Przymorskie and the sea is considered a landmark of Dźwirzyno and serves as another prominent point of reference by the water.

For exercise on land, there are three Nordic walking routes of varying difficulty in Grzybowo and Dźwirzyno. They run along the beaches and through the coastal forest. For a longer bike ride, the 55-kilometre Wokół Jeziora Resko route offers a different perspective: it runs mostly through the Gmina Kołobrzeg and also leads into the neighbouring Gmina Trzebiatów. The Gminne Centrum Sportu i Rekreacji in Dźwirzyno offers bicycle hire for exploring the Gmina Kołobrzeg.

Architecture and Local Details

The buildings also reflect different historical periods. The hunting palace in Budzistowo was built in the eclectic style around the turn of the 20th century. The neo-Gothic church in Korzystno dates from 1866. It has a former cemetery, laid out in the same year and surrounded by a distinctive brick wall. The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Karcino is also neo-Gothic and dates from 1869. An eclectic palace and two churches with specific dates thus offer contrasting architectural themes.

A smaller landmark can be found on Grzybowo’s main street: the three-dimensional “GRZYBOWO” sign stands next to a fountain. It is a good place to take a short break during a walk or bike ride. This detail adds a specific stopping point in the village to the broader themes of nature and architecture.

Plan Your Stay Around Your Interests

Dźwirzyno’s highlights include the beach, harbour and Nordic walking; in Grzybowo, there are also bog landscapes, routes and the sign by the fountain. In Budzistowo, Korzystno and Karcino, the historic buildings described above are the main points of interest. These place names give you specific reference points when deciding which themes you want to shape your stay.
