Bagicz offers several distinct starting points for planning a trip: sightseeing flights at the airfield, a green-marked hiking route through several places, and the history of a former Protestant cemetery. These themes offer different perspectives: a current leisure activity, a longer circular route, and traces of history. For your planning, both the specific route and the changing availability of flights are relevant.

Sightseeing flights and the airfield’s history

Sightseeing flights by plane and powered paraglider depart from Bagicz Airfield. Their availability may vary depending on operations. If you plan to take a sightseeing flight, check in advance whether it is available and plan your day accordingly.

The airfield was built in 1935–1936 as a base for the German Air Force. After 1945, it was one of the Soviet Army’s largest bases in Poland until 1992. These dates mark two distinct periods of military use. The sightseeing flights represent a different use of the airfield from the military chapters in its history.

Hiking through several places

An approximately 26-kilometre green-marked circular hiking trail runs from Ustronie Morskie through Sianożęty, Bagicz, Kukinia, Rusowo, Gwizd and Wieniatowo, before returning to Ustronie Morskie. Its route heads towards the natural monuments of the “Bolesława” and “Warcisława” oaks. Bagicz is therefore one stop on a circular route that includes several places, not the starting or finishing point of the route described.

For planning your day, consider the approximate length as the total distance of the circular route. Check local conditions before setting out. Compared with the sightseeing flight, the hike is best understood in terms of its route and distance; flight availability, on the other hand, may vary depending on operations. The two activities therefore differ in the information that matters for planning.

Historical traces at the Protestant cemetery

The former Protestant cemetery in Bagicz dates from the late 19th century and is included in the register of monuments and the list of historic monuments. It was in use around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. These listings, alongside the surviving traces on site, identify the cemetery as a historic monument.

The remains include broken tombstones and grave slabs, as well as metal crosses. Names and dates of birth and death are still visible on some of them. These legible details give the surviving grave markers a personal connection. When the cemetery was located on the grounds of a Soviet military unit, it was inaccessible to the public.

In Bagicz, different travel interests can be connected with specific themes: a sightseeing flight with variable availability, a hike with a defined route, and historical traces of a cemetery. The airfield’s military history and the cemetery’s history also each provide their own chronological points of reference for exploring the area.
