Jerutki: Timber-frame church, cycling routes and local history
Accommodation in Jerutki
Jerutki offers several points of interest for a stay: a Protestant timber-frame church, a historic rectory, an art village project and two cycling routes that pass through the village. This allows you to tailor your travel plans to different interests. If you want to focus on architectural history, you can visit the church, cemetery and rectory together; for cycling, there are two routes of different lengths to choose from.
Timber-frame church, cemetery and rectory
The Protestant church in Jerutki was built in 1715. It is one of the few surviving examples of the timber-frame construction that was once widespread in the region. The historic cemetery, dating from the second half of the 19th century, surrounds the church; crosses and tombstones have been preserved there. The two sites reflect different periods: the church building dates from the early 18th century, and the cemetery from the second half of the 19th century. A visit to the church and cemetery offers a way to appreciate both the region’s building tradition and a more recent historical context.
The historic rectory stands next to the church. It dates from the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Two later events are associated with the building: in 1802, it hosted the Prussian king Frederick William and his wife, Louise; in 1812, two Napoleonic generals were stationed there. The dates place these different historical connections in context.
An art village project from 2013
In 2013, an art village project was established in Jerutki through a joint initiative by local residents and the Kreolia-Kraina Kreatywności Foundation, which works there. Its motto was “Jerutki – Wieś Sztuki” (“Jerutki – Village of Art”). This cultural initiative offers a different way to explore the village’s history from its older buildings: it puts a local initiative and its shared motto at the centre.
Comparing the cycling routes
The blue-marked Lanca cycling route passes through Jerutki and is 24.4 km long. The 95 km Jurand cycling route also includes the village. This gives you a clear comparison of their lengths: Lanca is the shorter of the two routes, at about a quarter of the length of the Jurand route. If you plan to cycle, you can use this difference in distance as an initial point of comparison.
More points of interest along the routes
Near Jerutki, remains of concrete fortifications from the First World War, known as the Hindenburg Line, lie along the Jurand cycling route. The Bagna Krawieńskie wetlands lie along the Lanca route. The Uroczysko Bagna Karwińskie nature reserve is described as a breeding ground for many bird species. The points of interest differ: the Jurand route passes historic fortification remains, while the Uroczysko Bagna Karwińskie is described as a breeding ground for many bird species.
Accommodation and seasonal rentals
The municipal strategy lists Jerutki among the villages with agritourism businesses and notes that larger clusters of holiday homes are located there. This information is based on conditions up to 2021. Some holiday homes are rented to tourists during the summer season; individual businesses and offers may change. When planning a specific trip, check which accommodation is available for your chosen dates. Agritourism businesses and holiday homes are distinct types of accommodation.
