Sedansk as a destination for cycling and kayaking

Sędańsk is one of the summer villages that tourists can visit. Two routes give the place a specific point of reference for trip planning: a 55-kilometre cycling route and a 47-kilometre kayaking route. Both pass through Sędańsk, but differ in mode of travel, length and route. So if you include the routes when choosing a destination, you can compare not only the distances but also the place names and bodies of water mentioned for each one.

Two routes, two courses

The 55-kilometre cycling route runs from Szczytno via Sasek Wielki, Sasek Mały, Rekownica, Jedwabno, Narty, Brajniki, Nowy Dwór, Sawica and Janowo to Sędańsk, then back to Szczytno. This sequence makes Sędańsk an intermediate point on the described circular route; Szczytno is at both the start and the end. A route description last updated in 2016 describes the cycling route as unmarked. It is therefore advisable to check current information about the route and trail conditions before setting out on your ride.

The kayaking route on the Saska and Sawica rivers is 47 kilometres long and marked. It passes through Jezioro Sasek Wielki, Jęcznik, Janowo, Sędańsk, Jezioro Sędańskie, Jezioro Sasek Mały and Kucbork Wiebark. Unlike the cycling route, it is described by river names and a series of named lakes and places. This shows which bodies of water and stops are part of the stated route. It is also advisable to check current route conditions before a kayaking trip.

The kayaking route is eight kilometres shorter than the cycling route. However, the descriptions cover routes for different modes of travel. The cycling route runs from Szczytno via Sędańsk and back, while the kayaking route follows the Saska and Sawica rivers and includes several lakes and places. The combination of distance, route type and course is therefore more informative for comparison than the distance alone. The descriptions also differ in their marking: the route description last updated in 2016 describes the cycling route as unmarked, while the kayaking route is described as marked.

Local history and the lake surroundings

The village’s origins provide another point of reference. The village of Sędańsk was founded on four łans of oak forest, which were granted to Jerzy “Moelner” on 21 February 1565.

On the left shore of Lake Sędańsk are the village of Sędańsk, a small beach and a campsite without amenities. A route description from 2015 mentions these places. If you plan to visit the lake, please check current access arrangements before your visit.
