Rudka: Hiking Trail and Historic Sites
Accommodation in Rudka
Rudka lies on the Wałpusza River in the Masurian Lake District, on the border between the Mrągowo Lake District and the Masurian Plain. There are two distinct points of interest to help you plan your trip: the Mazursko-Kurpiowski hiking trail, which passes through Rudka, and historic sites in the village and to its northwest. This makes it possible to consider Rudka as a destination for a hiking trip or a stay focused on regional history.
Hiking the Mazursko-Kurpiowski Trail
The yellow-marked Mazursko-Kurpiowski hiking trail runs from Szczytno via Rudka, Małdaniec, Lipowiec and Radostowo to Klon. Rudka is therefore part of a longer route whose described course includes several places. If you use the trail as a basis for planning, this sequence helps you place Rudka along the route rather than treating the entire route as if it were confined to the village.
After crossing the Szczytno–Ełk railway line, the trail passes through a pine forest and reaches Rudka after 3 km. The railway line, forest and Rudka are the reference points given for navigating this section.
In Rudka, turn left after 8.6 km; after reaching a bridge, continue to the right in the direction of Czarkowy Grąd. The yellow markings identify the route as a hiking trail. Check the route on site before setting off.
Historic Sites in and near Rudka
Two historic structures can be distinguished by their addresses. At Rudka 22 is the wooden cottage called “dom (chałupa) nr 20,” which is among Rudka’s monuments. The farmstead complex “zespół zagrody nr 20” is at Rudka 20 and is also a monument; it is classified as a residential building. When distinguishing between the two names, pay attention to the house numbers: the suffix “nr 20” is part of each name, while the addresses Rudka 22 and Rudka 20 are different.
Northwest of Rudka, beside a forest path, is a former 19th-century Protestant cemetery. The cemetery has been restored and is used by the village community; the remains of the former cemetery have been preserved. Its former Protestant function, preserved remains and use by the village community come together here. This sets the cemetery apart from the historic buildings in the village: the focus is a former burial ground, not a particular type of building.
For trip planning, the points of interest have distinct focuses: the hiking trail places Rudka on a route linking several named places, while the buildings and cemetery are individual sites in the village and to its northwest. If you plan your trip around your interests, you can consider the route information as one subject and the historic sites as another. Its location on the Wałpusza River and at the boundary between two geographical regions adds to this picture.
