Magdalenka is a particularly good way for travelers to discover Malawa. The hill is home to a modern observation tower and the historic Church of St. Mary Magdalene; several named routes also cross Magdalenka. You can plan your stay around whether views, architectural history or a route is your priority.

Views from Magdalenka

Magdalenka is the first hill in the Dynów Foothills. A modern observation tower stands on it, offering views of Rzeszów, Łańcut and aircraft on approach to Jasionka Airport. In favorable conditions, the view also extends as far as the Tatra Mountains. This is the only one of the views mentioned that is explicitly dependent on favorable conditions. The panorama combines city views and the airport approach with a possible distant view of the mountains.

Church and observation tower

The branch church of St. Mary Magdalene stands beside the observation tower on Magdalenka and can be seen from its platform. Built of masonry, the church was constructed in the 18th century to a design by Tylman z Gameren. The modern tower and the church thus bring together different periods: an observation structure and 18th-century architectural history. A visit inside may be possible by prior telephone arrangement. Call ahead to find out whether an interior visit can be arranged for your visit. The branch church is accessible from the outside.

Three routes over Magdalenka

The red tourist and historical trail of Colonel Leopold Lisa-Kuli passes through Magdalenka. The Via Regia pilgrimage route also runs there, and the Green Velo cycling route crosses the hill as well. The names indicate different focuses: a tourist and historical trail, a pilgrimage route and a cycling route. When planning, you can first consider which type of route best suits your travel interests. Check the current conditions of the route you plan to take before your visit.

Park and playground

Renovation of the Hill of St. Mary Magdalene in Malawa was completed in 2020. The project included a multi-generational park with chess and a playground. A playground for young children is located on Magdalenka in Malawa. The chess area and playground offer a different focus from the observation tower and church: here, recreation and play take center stage. If you are traveling with young children, you can include the playground as a specific point of interest in your plans.

Malawa as a hotel-search destination

Magdalenka may be a priority if views and architectural history matter to you; one of the named routes or the playground may suit other priorities. You can then choose a specific hotel based on your personal criteria.
