When looking for a hotel in Kolbuszowa, you can plan your trip around your interests: cycling, nature conservation and historic architecture each offer a different focus. The town and municipality have a range of places to explore, from the landscape along the River Nil to an open-air museum and historic memorial sites.

Getting your bearings among the plateau, river and railway

Kolbuszowa lies amid the forests of the former Sandomierz Forest, on the Kolbuszowa Plateau by the River Nil. The forest, plateau and waterway give the town a distinct setting. An important railway line also helps orient visitors: railway line No. 71, part of the Ocice–Rzeszów route, runs through the municipality and town of Kolbuszowa, connecting Tarnobrzeg with Rzeszów.

Nature and cycling

The Zabłocie Nature Reserve covers 536.95 hectares and protects the habitats of rare bird species and the natural plant communities of the former Sandomierz Forest. It includes areas within the municipality of Kolbuszowa and also extends into other municipalities. Its conservation objectives therefore cover both bird habitats and characteristic plant communities.

There are four signposted cycling routes in the municipality, with varying levels of difficulty. The blue cycling route is listed as 32.2 kilometres long, with a journey time of 3 to 4 hours. When comparing routes, you can first take their differing levels of difficulty into account, and for this route also factor the distance and time required into your plans. Check the signs locally, as route details may change.

Wooden architecture and historic sites

The Open-Air Museum of Folk Culture in Kolbuszowa covers almost 30 hectares and features more than 80 examples of wooden architecture. These include homes, farm buildings, craft and industrial buildings, and public buildings. The different building types offer a variety of perspectives: alongside domestic life, the collection also explores work, production and public functions. Visitors interested in architectural heritage will therefore find more than just one type of building here.

Another historic building is the Tyszkiewicz Palace in Werynia. It was built between 1900 and 1905 and stands in a 25-hectare manor park with numerous ponds. The palace and park offer a distinct point of interest alongside the open-air museum’s wooden architecture: here, the focus is on a historic building and its parkland, while the museum features buildings with a range of uses.

The Church of All Saints in Kolbuszowa has side altars dating from the first half of the 18th century and a bell from the 17th century. Its crypts contain the tombs of the Lubomirski and Sanguszko families and are not open to visitors. The church thus combines historic furnishings with explicitly restricted access to the crypts.

The Jewish cemetery in Kolbuszowa covers 1.6 hectares and preserves around 50 stone gravestones bearing inscriptions in Polish, German and Hebrew. Together with the church, it showcases two different aspects of the local cultural heritage: the church highlights architectural history and furnishings, while the cemetery is distinguished by its gravestones and multilingual inscriptions.

Nature at the educational centre

The Centre for Ecological Education in Świerczów has a diorama featuring animals and plants, as well as a fully equipped classroom for meetings and lessons with foresters. This educational facility complements the nature themes of the reserve. Programmes may vary; if a particular offering is important to your plans, check its current availability.
