Procisne combines the nature trail to Dwernik with views of the Otryt Mountains and a historical perspective on the village. For travelers looking for a hotel for a trip to Procisne, this offers two specific themes to consider when choosing a destination: observing nature and local history. The different focuses of the two trails show which aspect you can make your main priority.

Nature and landscape on the trail to Dwernik

The “Procisne-Dwernik” nature trail leads from Procisne to Dwernik along a hillside path. It is about 4.4 kilometers long, with twelve stations along the way. These two features provide different points of reference: the length gives you an idea of the trail’s overall distance, while the number of stations conveys its nature-focused, educational character. The route was created to showcase the surrounding natural environment and the San River gorge. It offers views of nearby settlements and the Otryt Mountains. The focus is therefore not only on the route itself, but also on the landscape.

Various plant and animal species can be observed along the route, including the Carpathian snowflake species known as “śnieżyca karpacka.” As well as the views, observing nature is another aspect of the trail. Procisne has another natural attraction nearby: the “Śnieżyca wiosenna w Dwerniczku” floristic reserve was established to protect this Carpathian snowflake species. The two approaches are therefore distinct: plants and animals can be observed along the trail, while the nearby reserve is dedicated to protecting the species.

Insights into the history of Procisne

The ethnographer Oskar Kolberg spent about a month in Procisne in 1884. He documented the customs, clothing, diet, building methods, farming, livestock raising, and beliefs of the local population. The topics range from daily life to buildings and agriculture, as well as religious beliefs, offering a broad perspective on local ways of life.

The “Stare Procisne” nature trail also explores the history of the village. It begins at the “Hłynny” forest parking lot, where the Wołosaty flows into the San. The distinction between the two trails is clear: Stare Procisne focuses on the village’s history, while Procisne-Dwernik highlights nature and the San River gorge.

Getting to the trail and practical planning

To reach the “Procisne-Dwernik” trail, take a PKS bus to Procisne, then walk along the “Stare Procisne” trail to the start of the route. In the opposite direction, you can take a bus to Dwernik. When planning your trip, bear in mind that the walk along “Stare Procisne” to the start of the route is part of the journey there and is separate from the subsequent trail to Dwernik, which is about 4.4 kilometers long. Check the latest PKS bus schedule before traveling, especially if you plan to take the bus from Dwernik in the opposite direction.
