Tychy: Nature, Urban History and Industrial Heritage
Accommodation in Tychy
Discover Tychy through its water and forests, as well as its architecture, industrial heritage and urban history. On the edge of Puszcza Pszczyńska lies the Paprocany recreation centre by Lake Paprocany. In the city, a post-industrial site, a museum and historic housing estates, among other places, tell different stories of Tychy. For planning your trip, this means you can prioritise nature experiences, cultural attractions and leisure activities according to your interests.
Lake Paprocany and the forests
The Paprocany recreation centre lies by Lake Paprocany, on the edge of Puszcza Pszczyńska. Hiking and cycling trails run around the lake and through the forests. This makes both the lakeshore and the forest destinations for outdoor activities. If you enjoy walking or cycling, you can take these different landscapes into account when planning your stay.
Another way to explore Tychy by bike is the Tyska Pętla Rowerowa. The 27 km route passes through various districts, offering the chance to discover the city’s history and numerous historic buildings. This circular route has a different focus from the paths around the lake or through the forests: here, the districts and their history take centre stage.
Industrial heritage, architecture and the city museum
Browar Obywatelski is included in the Route of Industrial Monuments as a post-industrial site. A more than hundred-year-old recipe for Tyskie beer was also revived there. The site thus brings together two subjects that are also interesting in their own right: the industrial past and a local brewing tradition.
Plac św. Anny is a showcase for a different architectural focus. The square is the centre of Osiedle A and features post-war socialist realist architecture. Its distinctive details include ornate decorations and a fountain. The Szlak Miejski Tychy, created in 2011, included 23 information boards at particularly interesting sites in the city, including housing estates.
The Tychy City Museum offers museum lessons on the history of Tychy and the role of museums today. Its programme also includes trips around Tychy and urban outdoor games. The urban history section houses exhibits on the history of Tychy and Upper Silesia. Another place to learn about the city’s history is Tyska Galeria Sportu: since 2016, it has been a branch of the City Museum, located at the Municipal Stadium at ul. Edukacji 7.
Leisure at Wodny Park Tychy
Wodny Park Tychy has a surfing zone with a surf simulator in a swimming pool. The beer bath zone offers beer infusions as well as baths in one- and two-person tubs. This means that the same leisure complex offers different experiences: the surf simulator as a special water-based activity, and the beer bath zone with its infusions and tubs. Which one you choose to include depends on the kind of leisure activity you want to prioritise during your stay.
A look at the wider destination of Silesia
The wider destination of Silesia provides another regional context. The Silesian Voivodeship’s Wooden Architecture Trail includes historic buildings and architectural ensembles. The Beskids in the voivodeship are also home to the artificial Żywiec and Międzybrodzie Lakes, which are used for water sports and other water-based leisure activities.
Regional cuisine also features on its own route: the „Śląskie Smaki“ Culinary Trail includes restaurants serving Silesian, Beskid, Jura and Zagłębie specialities. Membership requires the „Śląskie Smaki“ certificate, which confirms the quality and regional authenticity of the dishes. Individual restaurants and menus may change.
