A ducal castle, a medieval market square and mountain bike singletracks reveal different sides of Bielsko-Biała. The city offers visitors ways to spend their days exploring culture and local history, or getting active. When looking for a hotel, you can consider which of these interests will take priority during your trip.

Castle, Market Square and Historic Buildings

The Castle of the Sułkowski Dukes is the oldest and largest historic building in the historic city of Bielsko-Biała. For more than two centuries, it served as one of the residences of the Piast Dukes of Cieszyn. The Market Square also preserves traces of the city’s earlier history: its medieval layout remains, along with townhouses dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. Anyone interested in architectural history will find several distinct historical layers here, rather than just a single building.

The Polish Theatre building was constructed in 1890; its interior has been restored and is richly decorated. The reception building of Bielsko-Biała Główna railway station also dates from 1890. Restored Pompeian polychromes can be seen in its main hall. For a walking route: BWA Bielsko Gallery is about a ten-minute walk from Bielsko-Biała Główna and PKS stations. Actual walking time may vary.

Weaving Traditions and Industrial History

The Weaver’s House is located in Górne Przedmieście. This district had existed since the first half of the 15th century and was inhabited by cloth makers from Bielsko. Its permanent exhibition recreates the home and workshop of a master craftsman in the cloth-makers’ guild. The exhibition thus focuses on both living and working spaces. After many years of conservation and reconstruction work, the Weaver’s House opened to visitors in 1992. If you are planning a visit, please check the current visitor information.

Stara Fabryka is housed in the buildings of a former cloth and wool goods factory, which had been in operation since 1887. In 2006, the museum was added to the Industrial Monuments Route of the Silesian Voivodeship. Together with the Weaver’s House, this site offers a view of crafts and textile production from two different perspectives: the workshop of a master cloth maker and the buildings of a former factory.

Hiking, Mountain Biking and Winter Activities

Bielsko-Biała has 16 mountain hiking trails with a combined length of 81 kilometres. The trail inventory may be updated, so check the current routes when planning your trip. Another option is Enduro Trails Bielsko-Biała: the network includes mountain bike singletracks designed for uphill or one-way riding. Difficulty levels range from easy descents to technically demanding downhill tracks. As conditions on individual trails can change, it is worth checking the specific trail before setting out.

The blue Flow trails Rock'N'Rolla and Twister are more than 11 kilometres long combined. Their combined length and the different difficulty levels across the trail network offer two concrete points of reference for planning your rides: trail length on the one hand, and technical demands on the other. The Dębowiec Centre also has a 610-metre ski slope. The centre also features a nature trail with six information boards.

Szyndzielnia and Other Ideas

The cable car to Szyndzielnia covers a distance of 1,810 metres. Beside its upper station is an observation tower with a platform 18 metres high and a telescope with 25× magnification. The former upper cable car station now houses the “Stara Stacja” restaurant. For a visit to Szyndzielnia, the cable car route, observation tower and “Stara Stacja” restaurant offer different things to explore.

The Banialuka Puppet Theatre adds its own perspective to the cultural offering. For each of the 2022–2027 seasons, the theatre planned four premieres for each of its four groups: preschool children, schoolchildren, teenagers and adults. Between theatre, historic architecture and mountain sports, you can explore Bielsko-Biała through the interests that suit your trip.
