Porąbka between Forest, River and History
Accommodation in Porąbka
Porąbka offers several clearly distinct points of interest to consider when planning a trip: extensive forests, the Soła River and historic buildings. When looking for a hotel in Porąbka, you can decide whether nature, religious architecture, wooden buildings or industrial history should be a particular feature of your stay. The following features bring the different sides of the place to life.
Forest, River and Landscape
Large parts of Porąbka are forested; pines, spruces and firs shape the predominantly coniferous woodland. On the slopes of Zasolnica, remnants of the old Carpathian beech forest, with mature beech trees, have also been preserved. Thus, extensive coniferous forests and an old beech stand on Zasolnica offer two distinct forest landscapes.
The Soła flows through Porąbka; fish can be seen in the wild in its often very clear water. The river adds another natural perspective to the wooded landscape. Porąbka is considered a summer resort north of Góra Żar and between Lake Czanieckie and Lake Międzybrodzkie.
Churches, Wooden Architecture and Dam
Construction of the church in Porąbka began in 1904, and it was consecrated three years later. It is a single-nave Neo-Gothic building made of dressed sandstone. “Single-nave” describes a layout with one main nave; “Neo-Gothic” refers to a style of architecture inspired by Gothic design.
The Chapel of Saint Urban is considered the oldest religious building in Porąbka. A marked green hiking trail runs near the historic chapel. The figure of Jesus Nazareński, dating from 1867, also stands on the east wall of the presbytery in the parish church of Porąbka. These details differ in scale, ranging from the classification of an entire building to a dated piece of interior decoration.
Porąbka is home to the wooden building complex “Kolonia,” built in the Witkiewicz style in the first half of the 20th century. This complex differs in material and style from the sandstone church, providing a distinct architectural accent. Porąbka is also associated with a large dam, which entered service in 1936 and was designed by Gabriel Narutowicz. These dates provide a brief timeline: the figure is dated to 1867, construction of the church began in 1904 and it was consecrated three years later, and the dam entered service in 1936.
Wielka Puszcza and Routes
Wielka Puszcza is a frequently visited part of Porąbka and a good starting point for excursions. One route through Porąbka follows the Wielka Puszcza stream to Targanicka Pass. These two details provide different kinds of orientation: Wielka Puszcza is a part of the village that serves as a starting point, while the route description gives its course along the stream and the pass as its destination.
