Kłomnice: St. Martin, the cemetery and the cycling route
Accommodation in Kłomnice
Kłomnice lies on the Warta River. Those interested in architectural history will find a clear focal point in the Church of St. Martin parish complex; the cemetery also preserves historic details. Cycling and the Święto Pszczoły offer different highlights. These topics give you different starting points for planning a stay in Kłomnice to suit your interests.
St. Martin and architectural history
The Church of St. Martin parish complex is the oldest monument in the municipality of Kłomnice. It includes the brick church dating from 1789, which was remodelled in 1918, a brick bell tower dating from around the 18th century, and a brick enclosure with a gate dating from around the same period. The present-day church was built between 1779 and 1789 in the late Baroque style. The period from 1779 to 1789 refers to its construction, while 1918 marks a later remodelling.
The local church history also includes the original wooden church, which dates back to the mid-14th century and was founded by the local Kłomnicki landowning family. Its history therefore stretches far back beyond the present late Baroque building. To distinguish the different periods, you can consider the medieval wooden church, the later church building and the 20th-century remodelling as separate phases.
The historic cemetery
The historic cemetery in Kłomnice dates from the 19th century and is enclosed by a brick wall. In the oldest, western section stands the sandstone tomb of the priest Józef Gabriel Brzeziński, who died in 1855. The tomb links a named historical figure with a specific place within the cemetery.
The initials “LK” and a crown symbolising the baronial title appear on the iron gate. The stone caps on the brick cemetery pillars were probably donated by Baron Leopold Kronenberg. In this way, symbolic details complement the cemetery’s history of graves and buildings; the reported uncertainty about the possible donation is important.
Cycling and the Święto Pszczoły
A cycling trip on the FOLGA NA ZAKOLU cycle route, documented in November 2023, ran from Zawada via Widzów, Jacków, Kłomnice and Konary, returning to Zawada. The trip was made together with seventh-grade students and covered just under 24 kilometres. The sequence of places makes the circular route clear: Zawada was both the starting point and the end point, while Kłomnice lay between Jacków and Konary. If you would like to use the route, check the current signage before setting off.
The Święto Pszczoły has become an annual tradition in Kłomnice. The festival highlights the importance of bees in the ecosystem and strengthens community ties. This gives it a different focus from the architectural and cemetery history: the emphasis is on an ecological topic and community life. If you would like to plan your stay around the festival, check the dates in advance.
