Local history across different periods
The first mention of Stara Dąbrowa in chronicles dates from 1304 to 1309. The historic German name of the village is Alt Damerow. Another historical period is the Prussian era: at that time, Stara Dąbrowa was one of 18 royal villages under the administration of the office in Słupsk (Stolp). The chronicle reference, German name, and administrative affiliation describe different aspects of the place. The dates refer to its mention in the chronicles, while the affiliation with the office describes its historical administrative status during the Prussian era.
Former cemeteries and their features
As of January 1, 2021, three former German Protestant cemeteries were recorded in the forest area of Stara DÄ…browa: in forest compartment 589l, covering 0.14 hectares; in compartment 634f, covering 0.51 hectares; and in compartment 701g, covering 0.16 hectares. Another entry concerns forest compartment 705a: a former German cemetery covering 0.21 hectares is recorded there and described as devastated. The information distinguishes the four sites by forest compartment and area; for 705a, it also includes an explicit description of its condition.
Cemetery No. 1 covers an area of 1,976 m². Oak trees and an earthen embankment mark its boundaries. Surviving features include a granite boulder and a granite pedestal with part of a cast-iron cross. Its area, boundaries, and individual grave markers thus provide different points of reference for understanding this historic site.
Cemetery No. 2 covers more than 1,400 m². Its northern section formerly contained a children’s section. Surviving features include a concrete cross, two openwork crosses, a child-shaped concrete gravestone, and eight concrete outlines of children’s graves. The former children’s section and the specifically described surviving features can therefore be considered as different parts of the local history.
Location details and route planning
Cemetery No. 1 lies 485 m northwest of Stara DÄ…browa, on the right-hand side of the forest road to ZagĂłrzyczka. Cemetery No. 2 is also northwest of the village, on the left-hand side of the road to ZagĂłrzyczka and about 90 m northeast of Cemetery No. 1. Their respective sides of the road and approximate positions in relation to each other therefore help distinguish the two sites.
On October 30, 2023, the municipality reported that employees of ZGK Damnica had marked the burial sites in Stara DÄ…browa with plaques to commemorate the resting places of the deceased. A municipal project description dated June 9, 2023, also envisaged the 5 km road between ZagĂłrzyczki and Stara DÄ…browa being used as a footpath and cycle path. This information describes the plan at that time.
