Złotokłos: History and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Złotokłos
You can explore Złotokłos through three specific themes: the history of its holiday resort, the Church of Our Lady of Grace, and a main green hiking trail that starts in the village. This keeps local history and trails clearly distinct from other destinations in the wider Piaseczyński destination.
The holiday resort’s history in two stages
In 1924, Jan Orsetti began developing the Letnisko Złotokłos holiday resort, covering more than 105 hectares. In 1925, a further 79 hectares were designated as Letnisko Złotokłos A; the plots there were each 3,600 square metres. The sequence of years distinguishes the development of the holiday resort from the designation of an additional, separately named section the following year.
The church and its construction history
The Church of Our Lady of Grace in Złotokłos was built of stone in its present form between 1935 and 1937. It has a single nave and three altars. “Single-nave” describes a church interior with one main nave; the term refers to its basic layout, while the construction period and building material provide more detail about its history. The church thus adds a later chapter in the village’s history to that of the holiday resort.
Memorial site and annual picnic
The First World War military cemetery is officially located in the Sołectwo Runów area and in the Runów Forest; Złotokłos borders the cemetery. It is therefore often considered part of the village by local residents. The cemetery was restored in 2016. An annual picnic with numerous attractions is also held in the Sołectwo Złotokłos. If you would like to plan your stay around this event, check the date of that year’s edition.
Hiking trail starting in Złotokłos
The main green hiking trail through the Chojnów Forests begins in Złotokłos and passes through Szczaki and other places before reaching Konstancin-Jeziorna. The full route is 34 kilometres long. This distance describes the entire trail, not just a section starting in Złotokłos. Check the current trail markings before setting out.
Other routes in the wider Piaseczyński destination
The wider Piaseczyński destination has other trails of varying lengths. The yellow-marked 28-kilometre Szlak Południkowy runs through the Chojnowskie Forests from Piaseczno railway station via Zalesie Dolne, Górki Szymona, Zimne Doły, Zalesie Górne, the Łoś Nature Reserve and Nowy Prażmów to Prażmów. The 30-kilometre Szlak rezerwatów przyrody connects Zalesie Górne and Zimne Doły with the Uroczysko Stephana, Chojnów, Obory, Skarpa Oborska, Olszyna Łyczyńska and Łęgi Oborskie nature reserves; via Konstancin-Jeziorna, it continues to Ursynów. At ten kilometres, the Chojnowski szlak zabytków przyrody is shorter and runs through the Chojnów, Pilawski Grąd and Uroczysko Stephana nature reserves. Compared with the 34-kilometre main hiking trail starting in Złotokłos, the stated route lengths range from ten to 34 kilometres.
Nature trails and history in the region
The Chojnowski Landscape Park has seven marked hiking trails, as well as a network of educational trails for pedestrians and cyclists. The park’s eleven nature reserves may be visited only via existing paths and marked trails. The history of the wider Piaseczyński destination also includes the medieval Gothic castle of Czersk. Duke Janusz the Elder built it around the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries on the site of an earlier fortification. This much older regional historical theme thus sits alongside the development of Złotokłos as a holiday resort in the 1920s.
