Discover Chotomów
Accommodation in Chotomów
Chotomów offers two distinct starting points for planning a trip: sites of religious architecture and remembrance, and a seasonal cross-country ski trail in the forests. The town’s history includes a statue of the Madonna and Child in front of the gate tower with its bell tower, and a monument commemorating the struggle for Polish independence. For cross-country skiing, you can choose between a long loop and a shorter one. This lets you tailor your trip to your interests and—when it comes to the trail—to suitable conditions.
Religious Heritage and Places of Remembrance
A statue of the Madonna and Child stands in front of the gate tower with its bell tower in Chotomów. It is thought to date from around the mid-19th century. Its position directly in front of the tower connects the religious image with the entrance to the cemetery. The gate tower leads to the church cemetery and dates from the same period as the church. Its role as an entrance and its chronological connection to the church are two distinct aspects. It is also important to distinguish the statue’s approximate date from that of the tower.
Another memorial is the monument to the heroes of the struggle for Polish independence, 1939–1945. It was unveiled on October 29, 1961. A black granite plaque on the monument honors those who fought against the Nazi occupation of Poland from 1939 to 1945. The years 1939–1945 refer to the struggle and those being honored; October 29, 1961, by contrast, is the date the monument was unveiled.
The two memorials highlight different historical themes: the statue represents a religious subject and is thought to date from around the mid-19th century. The monument commemorates the struggle from 1939 to 1945 and was unveiled in 1961. This comparison of dates helps distinguish the two themes.
Cross-Country Skiing in the Chotomów Forests
The cross-country ski trail in the Chotomów forests is about 6 kilometers long and forms a large loop; there is also a shorter loop of about 1.5 kilometers. Both distances are approximate. The shorter loop is therefore about a quarter as long as the large one. These are two clearly distinct options when choosing the length of your outing: a shorter loop or a large loop that is about four times as long.
One access point to the trail is on Bagienna Street in Chotomów. From there, the trail begins about 400 meters into the forest. The access point on the road and the actual start of the trail are therefore not the same place. The roughly 400 meters describes how far into the forest the trail begins from the access point, while the approximately 1.5- and 6-kilometer distances refer to the loops. This distinction helps you plan your starting point and the length of your chosen loop separately.
Cross-country skiing is seasonal and depends on suitable conditions. Check conditions before setting out so you can plan around the time of year.
