Landsberg an der Warthe (GorzĂłw Wielkopolski) lies on the banks of the Warta River. Historic buildings, cultural venues and a variety of parks give your stay several distinct focal points. At the Old Market, architecture and memorials come together; the parks offer their own highlights.

Buildings and Culture

The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a red-brick building dating from the 13th century. Beside it, in the Old Market Square, stands the fountain named after Hermann Paucksch. Plaques set into the paving of the Old Market form the GorzĂłw Avenue of Stars. They honor deceased artists and cultural figures from GorzĂłw Wielkopolski. The square thus brings together sacred architectural history and a memorial to the city's cultural life.

Another distinctive building is the historic white Spichlerz: the three-storey half-timbered building dates from 1723. The Miejski Ośrodek Sztuki offers another way to experience culture, with contemporary art exhibitions and an art-house cinema. With 31 works by Władysław Hasior, the institution also holds the second-largest collection of the artist's work in Poland.

The Filharmonia Gorzowska also makes its own architectural statement: it is the newest cultural institution in GorzĂłw Wielkopolski and occupies a modern glass-fronted building. Its concert hall is considered to have some of the best acoustics in Poland. The GorzĂłw Theatre Meetings are part of the city's longer theatrical history; the theatre in GorzĂłw Wielkopolski organized them over several decades.

Parks with Different Highlights

Park Kopernika occupies the grounds of a former municipal cemetery; an evangelical chapel from the late 19th century has been preserved there. Park CzechĂłwek, by contrast, has a distinctly wooded character and a spring-fed pond. The two parks reveal different sides of the city's green spaces: the history of the site in one, woodland and water in the other.

Park Siemiradzkiego is the city's oldest park and has an amphitheater and a viewpoint. At Park Górczyński, the focus is on walking paths, children's playgrounds, a street workout area and a sand volleyball court. Park Słowiański has a climbing park, boules, walking paths and a downhill course. The options range from walks and viewpoints to sports and recreational activities. If you are visiting specifically to use particular facilities in Park Słowiański, check their current status in advance.

Routes and Getting Around

Since 2019, the Szlak Stolic in GorzĂłw Wielkopolski has included a section more than 700 meters long for cyclists and pedestrians. It connects to the eastern part of the boulevard and runs as far as the Lubuski Bridge. It is a good idea to check the route's current condition when planning your trip. A municipal tourism map from 2019 also shows hiking, cycling and horse-riding trails in GorzĂłw Wielkopolski and neighboring municipalities. Check the condition of your chosen route before setting out.
