When choosing a place to stay, it helps to see Karmanowice as more than just a name on the map: the street village stretches for more than a mile, and local points of interest range from archaeological finds to a grave for victims of the Shoah.

Village Character and Road Connections

Most of the buildings in Karmanowice form a street village. It stretches for more than a mile along a road that branches off the Lublin–Kazimierz Dolny route north toward Klementowice and on to Kurów.

The 2024 municipal report also describes a road that passes through Karmanowice and Kurów and connects to international route No. 17 between Warsaw and Lwów. This connection adds a wider regional road link to the picture of the village. Before setting out, it is worth checking the route for current conditions.

Archaeological History

The history of present-day Karmanowice also includes traces from the Neolithic period. The people who lived here at the time farmed, made tools from flint and animal bones, and shaped clay vessels. Archaeologists from UMCS, led by Dr. Jolanta Nogaj-Chachaj, also discovered a cemetery here dating to the 4th millennium BCE, with 49 graves and 57 skeletons.

These details bring together evidence of everyday activities and a large burial site. The first mention of Karmanowice as noble property dates to 1381. This is a later historical record, not the beginning of settlement. The archaeological prehistory and the written history of the village can thus be distinguished chronologically.

Commemorating the Victims of the Shoah

On private woodland in Karmanowice, there is a grave containing the remains of several Jewish women and men who were murdered in 1943. The grave was permanently marked and secured on June 21, 2018. A memorial ceremony and prayer were held at the grave of the victims of the Shoah in the Zakręcony Forest on the same date.

If you are planning a visit, check access in advance; the grave is on private woodland. The memorial ceremony and prayer should be understood as an event held on that specific date, not as a regularly offered program.

Fishing and Recreation by the Water

A municipal strategy for the period 2007–2015 lists the Stanica Wędkarska in Karmanowice as a place for fishing and recreation by the water. It mentions a pier, a boat, and the option to prepare caught fish on site. This focus differs from the archaeological themes and commemoration: it concerns leisure by the water.

If fishing is important to your travel plans, check in advance whether the facility is currently operating and accessible. The details about the pier, boat, and fish preparation relate to the period covered by the strategy, so they should not be taken as confirmation of a current offering.
