Chodel: Reservoirs, Parish Church and Routes
Accommodation in Chodel
Chodel offers several distinct themes for a stay: reservoirs in a wooded setting, the Parish Church of the Holy Trinity, and a long through-route that passes through the town. If you are considering Chodel as a destination, you can weigh up whether nature by the water, sacred architectural history or a route best suits your travel interests. A look at the area, facilities and route layout can help you assess these highlights more specifically.
Reservoirs and recreation by the water
Two reservoirs lie among the forests and have a combined area of 14 hectares; this figure refers to both bodies of water together. They attract anglers, walkers on tourist trails and swimmers. The reservoir in Chodel is surrounded by pine forests and woodland and is used for recreation. The area thus combines a wooded landscape with several forms of leisure activity. Pedal boats can be rented in summer; as rentals are seasonal, check in advance whether they are currently operating.
The Parish Church of the Holy Trinity
The Gothic-Renaissance Parish Church of the Holy Trinity in Chodel was built in 1541. Its 30-metre-high tower is topped with a crown. The furnishings include an image of Our Lady of Loreto and a baptismal font dating from 1616. A sandstone tomb is dedicated to the church’s founder, Bernard Maciejowski, and his wife, Elżbieta. The tower represents the exterior architecture; the image and baptismal font represent the religious furnishings; and the tomb represents the history of the church’s foundation. The construction date and the baptismal font provide two separate points in time: 1541 dates the church’s construction, while 1616 dates the baptismal font.
Bicycle rental in Chodel
The Gminny Ośrodek Kultury in Chodel launched a bicycle rental service in 2025. In its second season, the service included ten bicycles. They were equipped with helmets and available to women, men and young people. Capacity may change, so check the current stock before using the service.
The “Dolina Chodelki” route
A county tourism description, last updated in 2023, lists the 51-kilometre “Dolina Chodelki” through-route, which passes through Chodel and is of significance beyond the local area; it is rated difficult. The surface consists of 18 kilometres of asphalt, five kilometres of paved surface and 28 kilometres of unpaved surface. The unpaved section, at 28 kilometres, is longer than the two paved surface types combined. This allows you to consider the length, difficulty rating and surface as separate features.
Another historical theme
A grave of Austrian soldiers from the First World War is also located in Chodel. It complements the parish church as a different kind of historical landmark: while the church brings together architecture, religious furnishings and its founding history, this is a soldiers’ grave from wartime. This makes it possible to distinguish two different historical themes in the town.
