Discover Podgórz
Accommodation in Podgórz
Podgórz can be explored through several distinct points of interest: cultural sites, a history of winegrowing and trails through the landscape. If you are looking for hotels in Podgórz, this overview can help you plan your outings around your interests. Notable attractions include a chapel dating from 1953, the hillfort rampart on Skarpa Dobrska and the educational trail between Dobre and Podgórz.
Chapels, winegrowing history and views
A chapel in Podgórz is dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul and dates from 1953. The chapel at the summit of Winnica Pańska Góra offers a different religious connection: it is dedicated to Saint Vincent, the patron saint of winegrowers. These are two distinct associations: the date of the first chapel and the connection between the second and winegrowing.
Winnica Pańska Góra was founded in 2001 by Wojciech Włodarczyk; Pańska Góra is also the historic name of a hill. The winery welcomes guests by prior appointment. Arrange your visit with the winery in advance. In good weather, the Góry Świętokrzyskie can be seen from the summit of Winnica. From the hillfort rampart on a prominent landform on Skarpa Dobrska, the view extends across the Vistula Valley. This gives you two different landscape views to choose from, with visibility of the Góry Świętokrzyskie depending on good weather.
Walking trails and a cycling route
The easy, 6.5 km Dobre-Podgórz educational trail runs from Dobre through the Skarpa Dobrska nature reserve to Podgórz and back to Dobre. Along the route, the trail explores the Skarpa Dobrska Protected Landscape Area, as well as its carbonate rocks, loess, ravine formations and suffosion features. Both the stated distance and the easy rating are useful for planning. Check trail markers and local conditions before setting out.
In Podgórz, the educational trail meets the blue tourist trail from Annopol to Dęblin. The also-blue-marked Szlak Nadwiślański passes through Podgórz and continues via Kazimierz Dolny, Bochotnica, Puławy, Gołąb and Dęblin. The 51 km Dolina Chodelki cycling route ends in Podgórz at the Chapel of Saints John and Paul, on a county road. To choose a route, compare their distances: the educational trail is 6.5 km long and the cycling route is 51 km; they are different types of routes. Check local conditions before your trip.
Landscape and special places
The Krowia Wyspa island is part of the area around Podgórz. It is a faunal reserve, primarily ornithological, established to protect the nesting sites of numerous bird species. The island is also associated with a former use by residents of nearby Podgórz: cows, horses and sheep grazed there. The reserve therefore combines the protection of bird nesting sites with its traditional use as pastureland.
The Kamieniołom w Podgórzu quarry is also geologically noteworthy: impressions of marine animals, including sponges and shells, can be seen there. The site is on private property, in the yard of a farm. Do not plan to visit it as if it were a freely accessible attraction; check in advance whether a visit is possible.
