Discover Gębczyce
Accommodation in Gębczyce
Gębczyce offers two distinct starting points for planning a trip: architectural details at the manor house and hiking trails that pass through the village or include a nearby destination. If you are looking for a hotel, you can focus on local architecture or hiking. Other cultural and scenic aspects of the wider Strzelin destination should be considered separately.
The Manor House and Hiking Trails in Gębczyce
Stone herms have been preserved on the facade of the manor house in Gębczyce, on either side of the doorway. The original sgraffito decoration is also visible beneath the plaster. Sgraffito is a decorative technique in which a design is created by exposing layers of plaster in different colors. The facade thus combines stone elements beside the entrance with preserved decorative work beneath the plaster.
The green Wzgórza Strzelińskie hiking trail passes through Gębczyce. The Marienstein granite outcrop near Gębczyce can be reached by a short detour from the yellow hiking trail. The routes therefore differ: the green trail passes through the village, while the detour to Marienstein starts from the yellow trail. Check trail conditions before setting out, as they may change.
Strzelin in the Wider Strzelin Destination
Strzelin also has various historic buildings from different periods. The Rotunda of St. Gotthard dates from the 12th century and is one of the oldest sacred buildings in Silesia. The Gothic Chapel of St. George’s Hospital was built in 1351 within the former municipal hospital complex. The Powder Tower is the only tower of the former town fortifications that has survived to this day. It was built in the 15th century on a rectangular ground plan and is about 15 meters high. These details distinguish the three buildings by their construction dates, purposes, and state of preservation.
The Strzelin Town Hall Tower is more than 70 meters high. It houses a mineral exhibition and a permanent exhibition of photographs of pre-war Strzelin. Since 1993, the Galeria Skalna has also been located in the Chapel of St. George’s Hospital, and is managed by the Strzeliński Ośrodek Kultury. The exhibitions thus complement the historic buildings with a range of cultural themes.
The old water tower on the slope of Góra Szańcowa in Strzelin is currently used as an observation tower. From there, views extend across the Strzelińskie Hills, the Ślęża Massif, and part of the Silesian Lowlands. The Aquapark Granit offers a different kind of recreation: it has a 25.00 × 12.50-meter swimming pool and a leisure pool with numerous water massage stations.
The hiking trail information can also be distinguished by route: in the wider Strzelin destination, a red hiking trail runs from Strzelin to Gromnik; the green trail passes through Gębczyce, and the yellow trail provides a short detour to Marienstein. For help finding your way around Strzelin, the tourist information center provides numerous information brochures about the municipality and its surroundings. Strzelin is connected to Wrocław by a railway line and provincial road 395; the journey from Wrocław to Strzelin takes about 40 minutes by train or car.
