For a stay in Twardogóra, the local attractions can be grouped by outdoor activities, sacred architecture and history. A green cycling route and paths along the Skorynia offer different activities. The basilica and evangelical church provide distinct architectural highlights; the palace, park gate and school museum add historical perspectives. You can therefore choose what to focus on—outdoor activities, religious buildings or local history—according to your interests.

Cycling and paths along the Skorynia

The 22.8 km green cycling route starts at the Gminny Ośrodek Sportu i Rekreacji in Twardogóra. Its length and named starting point give you a clear reference if you plan to include cycling in your trip. The walking and recreation path along the Skorynia offers a different focus: paths for walking and jogging run along both sides of the river. The main consideration when choosing is therefore the type of activity—a cycling route with a specified length, or riverside paths described as suitable for walking and jogging on both sides.

Churches and religious connections

In the centre of the Upper Market Square, now called Plac Piastów, stands the Neo-Gothic Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. It is used for religious services; the Marian shrine in the basilica is a destination for numerous pilgrimages. Architecture, worship and pilgrimage represent different aspects of the same building: its Neo-Gothic style, its religious use and the role of the Marian shrine. If you are interested in sacred architecture, the basilica can therefore be understood in terms of its location on what is now Plac Piastów and its religious significance.

The Evangelical Church of the Holy Trinity and the Mother of God offers another perspective. Its construction makes it an original example of Silesian sacred architecture. Compared with the basilica, the emphasis here is on the building method; the basilica is distinguished by its Neo-Gothic style, its location on the Upper Market Square and the Marian shrine. Together, the two churches offer different architectural and religious points of reference within Twardogóra.

Palace and park history

The palace’s history goes back to a fortified structure on the site where it was built. The structure probably dates from the time Twardogóra was founded, around 1293. The approximate date refers to the fortification, not the palace. A different period is represented in the park surrounding the palace: it contains a Baroque entrance gate built around 1690. These details allow for a comparison between the probably early fortification and the later park gate. The gate is a specific architectural feature; the fortification points to an earlier period at the same location.

The School Museum of the Twardogóra Region

The exhibition at the School Museum of the Twardogóra Region is also part of the area’s history. It opened to the public on 15 February 1977 and was given the name School Museum of the Twardogóra Region. The exact date and name provide a different historical reference from the approximate date of the fortification: here, the focus is an event in the museum’s history. Unlike the presumed origins of the fortification, a specific day is given; the date refers to the exhibition opening and naming.
