Discover Nowa Ruda: Hotels and Attractions
Accommodation in Nowa Ruda
Nowa Ruda combines historic architecture, sacred buildings, mining history, and viewpoints. If you are looking for a hotel in Nowa Ruda, these different features can help you decide which aspects of the city you are most interested in exploring during your trip. The town hall and weavers’ houses represent different architectural styles; monuments and churches add to the picture, while observation towers and the underground tourist route bring other themes into focus.
Historic Architecture and Buildings
Nowa Ruda’s town hall is the city’s third town hall building. It was built in 1884 in the Biedermeier style and expanded in 1892–1894. The portal, oriel window, and window surrounds shape the expanded design. At the building’s northwest corner stands a fountain with a Baroque figure of Saint Florian dating from 1756.
The weavers’ houses on Nadrzeczna Street date from around the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries. Their vaulted arcades cover today’s pedestrian walkway. Another city monument is the bronze figure of Saint John the Baptist from 1909. It depicts the baptism of Christ by John.
Churches and Sacred History
St. Nicholas Parish Church is of historic, scientific, and artistic value. It is one of the largest and most strikingly designed Neo-Gothic churches in the Kłodzko Land and is the work of a renowned architect. The Loreto Chapel in Nowa Ruda was consecrated in 1768. It is included in the nationwide route of Loreto chapels. The Loreto Chapel in Nowa Ruda is also one of the 20 Polish buildings of this type.
Viewpoints and Trails
A 14-meter-high observation tower made of red sandstone stands on Góra św. Anny. It was built in 1911 and reopened on October 5, 2014, after modernization. On Góra Wszystkich Świętych, the highest point within the city limits at 648 meters above sea level, stands a stone observation tower with a gallery. It offers panoramic views of the Eastern and Central Sudetes.
The “Dwie Wieże” trail connects two viewpoints in Nowa Ruda, where masonry towers made of red sandstone stand. If you plan to follow this trail, check local conditions before setting out.
Experience Mining History
The “Kopalnia Węgla” underground tourist route was established in 1996, initially as a mining museum. The idea was to preserve part of the then-operating mine as a museum. This is distinct from the educational program offered by Dawna Kopalnia Nowa Ruda for visits to the coal mine: it includes a ride on the mine railway in the LECH tunnel. For planning, it is advisable to check with the operator about current arrangements.
