Glichów – Local History, Wooden Farmstead and Landscape
Accommodation in Glichów
Glichów lies in the so-called Wiśniowa Basin landscape. If you take local history and historic buildings into account when choosing a destination, the place offers several specific points of interest: a wooden farmstead, a manor house, a former settlement and events from the occupation period. Names of bodies of water and a geological feature add to this picture of the landscape.
Landscape and Settlement History
The so-called Wiśniowa Basin landscape places Glichów in its geographical context. The former Czarny Las is part of the area's historical landscape: Glichów was founded together with the surrounding villages in this forest. In the past, the forest covered the area between Szczyrzyc and Łysina. The basin landscape describes the geographical setting, while Czarny Las explains the historical context of the village's founding.
Czerwin also points to an earlier settlement history. The former settlement of Czerwin was incorporated into Glichów; its name has survived in a hamlet and a stream. The stream flows into the Krzyworzeka. Czerwin is thus both the name of a hamlet and a body of water, while also recalling the incorporated settlement.
Wooden Farmstead and Manor House
Farmstead No. 3, dating from 1881, is the oldest identified wooden farmstead still standing in the village. The term farmstead draws attention to a farm complex rather than just a single dwelling. Its date provides a specific reference point for the history of wooden architecture in Glichów.
A modest wooden manor house from the 18th century has also been preserved. The manor complex includes an 18th-century wooden manor house and an outbuilding; the property is set in a landscaped park. Comparing their dates: Farmstead No. 3 dates from 1881, while the wooden manor house is attributed to the 18th century.
Historical Events and Buildings
On 12 September 1944, a battle over the so-called Glichów Bridge took place on the boundary between Glichów and Poznachowice Dolne. The bridge's name is linked to the precise location on the boundary between Glichów and Poznachowice Dolne.
During the occupation, the Home Army (AK) Women's Service operated a field hospital in Glichów; secret classes were also held in the village. The local history therefore encompasses different historical contexts: a dated event on the boundary and activities within Glichów during the occupation.
The former school building was converted into a village cultural centre.
Geological Feature
Glichów is also specifically identified in geological terms: the best exposures of the Glichów tuffite horizon are found in Glichów along Czerwin Stream. An exposure is a place where rock is visible at the surface. Czerwin Stream connects this geological feature with the history of the place name: the name of the incorporated settlement has survived in both the hamlet and the body of water. Czerwin thus brings together the settlement name, a body of water and a geological feature.
