Włocławek offers a range of ways to explore the city: historic townhouses, large-scale murals, faience and signposted routes each provide their own highlights. You can plan a trip around the subjects that interest you most—from the history of the city and region to cultural events and cycling tours.

City history among townhouses and murals

The Muzeum Historii Włocławka opened in 1972 as a department of the Muzeum Ziemi Kujawskiej i Dobrzyńskiej. It is housed in three listed townhouses at the junction of Stary Rynek and ul. Szpichlerna. The permanent exhibitions cover the history of Włocławek and the region, spanning the period from prehistory to the time of the People’s Republic of Poland. This places early regional developments alongside later chapters in the city’s history.

The large-scale murals along the mural trail offer a different view of the city’s history. Their central theme is the history of Włocławek, and most of the works are located in the immediate Śródmieście area. Locations include Żabia 14/16, Wojska Polskiego 3, Piekarska 15, Bulwary Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego 22 and 25, Cyganka 9, and Żabia 2. These individual addresses give you specific points of reference, while the murals translate historical themes into a large-scale artistic form in the urban landscape.

Faience and cultural events

The interactive cultural centre Skarbiec Fajansu is dedicated to the 150-year history of Włocławek’s faience craft. Its focus on a local craft complements the broader view of the city’s history with a distinct cultural theme. If you are interested in design and crafts, the history of faience offers a clear point of connection during your stay.

The Centrum Kultury Browar B. offers music concerts and theatre performances, as well as contemporary art exhibitions. Regular classes and group activities are also available. Its cultural programme therefore encompasses a variety of formats, from attending events to organised activities. If you have a particular date in mind, check the relevant event dates in advance.

Exploring on foot and by bike

The signposted Miejski Spacerowy Szlak Obiektów Zabytkowych leads to historic buildings in Włocławek. For another perspective, visit the observation tower at the highest point in the city: from there, the view extends across the city and its immediate surroundings. Free binoculars are available on the platforms at heights of 3.5, 7.7, 11.9 and 16.1 metres. The walking route focuses on historic buildings, while the tower offers a wider view of the city and its surroundings.

Cycling routes of different lengths are also available. The signposted black Jezioro Wikaryjskie–Włocławek–Wieniec cycling route is 20 km long. The red Nadwiślański cycling route runs from Włocławek via Nieszawa to Ciechocinek and is 38 km long. This allows you to compare two marked routes by their stated lengths and destinations. For journeys within the city, there is also the Włower municipal bike-sharing system, with nearly 100 modern bicycles and 22 stations spread across various districts. Fleet and station numbers may change, so check the latest information if you plan to use Włower.

For a broader regional perspective, distinguish clearly between the city area and the surrounding region: the Kujawski PTTK branch in Włocławek covers 160.5 km of signposted walking trails and 40 km of signposted cycling routes. These figures refer to the branch’s wider area. Together with the city walking route and the two named cycling routes, they show that when planning, you can distinguish between specific options in Włocławek and a more extensive regional network of routes.
