Kaszczor offers visitors several distinct points of interest: late Baroque church architecture, monastic history, windmills and trails through a hilly, wooded landscape. If you’re looking for a hotel in Kaszczor, these varied attractions can help you shape your stay around culture, views or outdoor activities.

Churches and History

The Church of St. Wojciech is late Baroque and was built between 1764 and 1777. It stands on the site of a wooden church dating from the late 16th century. This means two distinct building periods are represented at the same location: the wooden predecessor and the later church.

The main altar features a Renaissance crucifix from the second half of the 16th century. Beside the church is also a Baroque sandstone statue of St. John of Nepomuk, dating from 1745. These dates place the details in relation to the church, which was built later: the crucifix belongs to an earlier period, while the statue dates from the 18th century.

Another historic church in Kaszczor is the former Evangelical church. It was restored in 2011 and now serves as a gallery and concert hall. Alongside the building and furnishings of St. Wojciech, the cultural use of a historic church is also part of the townscape.

The area’s monastic history also dates back to the 13th century: Kaszczor was then the first seat of the Cistercian monastery. This early historical connection adds another time period to the later-dated church buildings.

Landscape and Windmills

Kaszczor is picturesquely situated among hills and forests on the Młynówka Kaszczorska. From the rebuilt observation tower, you can enjoy panoramic views of Kaszczor and the surrounding area. When planning your trip, you can therefore consider both the historic buildings and the views of the town and its surroundings as distinct interests.

The historic townscape also includes two wooden post mills, dating from 1859 and 1761. The second mill is one kilometre east of the first. The dates also distinguish the two structures by age: the mill from 1761 is older than the one from 1859.

On Foot or by Bike

The yellow-marked Wieleń–Kaszczor–Śmieszkowo–Sława walking trail is 14.4 kilometres long in total. In Kaszczor, it crosses the Młynówka Kaszczorska and passes the listed Church of St. Wojciech. The watercourse and the church are two specific landmarks along the same trail.

The Szlak Kaszczorski is an 18.8-kilometre cycling route. It runs from Wieleń through Kaszczor, Mochy and Biała Góra, then back to Wieleń. The clear differences between the two routes are the mode of travel, length and course: the yellow-marked walking trail goes via Śmieszkowo to Sława and passes the church; the cycling route follows a loop that returns to Wieleń.

Before setting off on the Szlak Kaszczorski, check the local signs. From Wieleń, a one-kilometre cycling link also leads to Kaszczor. Check the local route conditions before your ride as well.
