When planning a stay in Wągrowiec, you can focus on a range of interests: the confluence of the Wełna and Nielba rivers, Cistercian history, Jewish remembrance or leisure activities. The places and attractions below vary in focus, from a remarkable water phenomenon and historic memorial sites to seasonal shows, tourist games and water-based recreation.

River Confluence and Getting Around

The confluence of the Wełna and Nielba rivers in Wągrowiec is considered a unique hydrological phenomenon and the only one of its kind in Poland. It is not natural in origin. Two routes lead to the promenade: one runs from the city centre along Aleja Jana Pawła II, while the other starts on Gnieźnieńska Street. When choosing a route for your visit, the practical difference between the two options is their respective starting points.

Cistercian History and Jewish Remembrance

The former Cistercian monastery complex in Wągrowiec bears witness to the city’s rich past and is the oldest Cistercian abbey in Greater Poland. In the former monastery, you can visit the underground rooms of the church where monks were buried. A visit to the complex thus takes you from its historical significance to the rooms associated with the church’s burial function.

A different form of remembrance can be found at the former Jewish cemetery. A group of 49 young people salvaged sunken Jewish gravestones from the bed of the Struga Gołaniecka River; they commemorate the Jews of Wągrowiec. The recovered stones were placed on the slope of the former cemetery, where the Lapidarium is now located. When choosing a historical focus, the difference between the two sites may be helpful: the monastery draws attention to Cistercian history and the underground burial rooms, while the Lapidarium focuses on the recovered gravestones and remembrance of the Jews of Wągrowiec.

Shows and Leisure Activities

The “Dancing Fountain” presents shows every day at midday and after dark from spring to autumn. If you are planning your visit around them, check the current schedule in advance. This lets you take the seasonal shows into account when planning your day without treating them as an attraction available at all times.

The four tourist games offer another way to get to know Wągrowiec. If you are looking for a playful way to explore the city in addition to visiting individual sights, you can consider this activity. Unlike a single memorial site, the focus here is on discovering the city through a collection of games.

Aquapark Wągrowiec is a water and leisure complex. Its facilities include swimming lessons, leisure and sports pools, an 80-metre slide, a current channel, saunas and a salt cave with a graduation tower. Individual facilities may change. If you want to use a particular facility, check its current availability in advance.

Coffee with Local Roots

The coffee brings together Wągrowiec’s Cistercian and Pałuki roots. Anyone interested can try it at a local café; it is also available as a promotional product from Wągrowiec. If you are looking to try it or buy it as a product, check current availability in advance.
