Księginki – Erratic Boulder, Local History and Horse Riding Trail
Accommodation in Księginki
Here you’ll find an erratic boulder designated as a natural monument, traces of history and a described horse riding trail. For planning your trip, the different topics and their specific locations are especially helpful: from the boulder in the village to the routes through Księginki.
Erratic Boulders and Landscape
Księginki is home to an erratic boulder with a circumference of 780 cm, designated as a natural monument. Its size and protected status offer two distinct points of reference for understanding this natural feature. A second erratic boulder, with a circumference of 610 cm, lies 2 km west of Księginki beside the Podrzekta–Gaj road. The two measurements allow a direct comparison of their sizes; the western site can also be located by its position beside the road. For planning your trip, these are two different locations: the larger boulder is in Księginki, while the second is located by reference to a road and its distance west of the village. The boulder in Księginki exceeds the western one in circumference by 170 cm; 610 cm is just under four-fifths of its 780 cm circumference.
Local History and Places of Remembrance
Księginki is documented in written records from 1210. At that time, Duke Władysław Odonic transferred the village to the Cistercian monastery of Przemęt. This early date gives the village’s history a specific medieval reference point.
A different perspective is offered by the Protestant cemetery on the southern edge of Księginki: its remains lie at the edge of a small pine wood, beside the field path to Małachowo. Among those buried there are former mayors of Dolsk, soldiers from the First and Second World Wars, and residents of Księginki and neighboring villages. The different groups and places mentioned make the cemetery a focal point of local remembrance. The Kapliczka Matki Boskiej Różańcowej is located in the garden of property No. 71.
On September 4, 2022, Księginki hosted the harvest festival of Śrem County and the Municipality of Dolsk. The date adds a specific recent event to the historical overview.
Roads and Routes
For road navigation, Księginki has an intersection with the county road to Nowieczka via Ostrowieczno. A horse riding trail runs from the Mościszki forester’s lodge through Księginki to Mszczyczyn, and continues from there to the Bogusławki stud farm. Another source gives a distance of 22 km for the route from Mościszki to Bogusławki. The intersection provides a reference point for the connection to Nowieczka, while the horse riding trail identifies Księginki as a waypoint on the route toward Mszczyczyn. This makes it possible to distinguish between road navigation and the riding route when planning. If you’re planning to use the horse riding trail for a specific trip, check the current route beforehand.
