Pobiedziska: Piast Trail, Gród and Lake Biezdruchowo
Accommodation in Pobiedziska
Whether you choose Pobiedziska for its history or its activities, the different themes lend themselves to different kinds of stays. The Skansen Miniatur Szlaku Piastowskiego focuses on buildings along the Piast Trail, while Gród Pobiedziska adds hands-on activities to try. There is a fountain and monument in the market square, and a kayak route and a seasonally open bathing beach at Lake Biezdruchowo. For planning purposes, you can first decide whether history, hands-on activities or a seasonal water-based program should take priority.
Models and history lessons along the Piast Trail
The Skansen Miniatur Szlaku Piastowskiego was founded in 1998. About 35 models are on display there, mainly of buildings along the Piast Trail. The models are made to a scale of 1:20; a measurement shown is therefore twenty times smaller than the corresponding measurement on the original. Using a common scale makes the models comparable with one another, while their subjects mainly feature architecture along the Piast Trail.
The Skansen also holds living history lessons about the everyday lives of the first Piasts, Slavic beliefs and interesting facts about the Piast Trail. This adds a storytelling approach to the architectural displays. If you want to make one of these history lessons a fixed part of your itinerary, check the schedule in advance.
Gród Pobiedziska: history to try for yourself
Gród Pobiedziska lies halfway between Poznań and Gniezno, on voivodeship road 194 and the Poznań–Gniezno railway line. Pobiedziska Letnisko station is on this railway line. These location details help you place the Gród between the two cities and understand its road and rail connections.
At the Gród, trying things for yourself is part of the experience: visitors can operate the ten-metre-high trebuchet and try archery as well as throwing spears and axes. A medieval playground with a human-powered carousel adds to the hands-on activities. While the Skansen conveys its themes through models and history lessons, the Gród also offers activities visitors can try for themselves.
Market square and Gothic church
There is a fountain depicting Lech, Czech and Rus in Pobiedziska’s market square. One of the most interesting monuments to the Greater Poland Uprising in Greater Poland is also located there. The Church of St Michael the Archangel in Pobiedziska dates back to the Gothic period. The Gothic church provides a different architectural focal point from the scale models. The market square is a place of public remembrance, while the church provides an architectural landmark as a Gothic building.
Kayak route and bathing beach at Lake Biezdruchowo
The “Puszcza Zielonka” kayak route starts in Pobiedziska at Lake Biezdruchowo and is about 11.3 kilometres long. This provides a specific paddling route alongside the seasonal beach. Water conditions and operation of the route may vary seasonally; check current conditions before planning a trip. The bathing beach at Lake Biezdruchowo is also open seasonally. If you plan to stop for a swim, check whether the beach is open on your visit date.
