Osieczna lies on the northwestern shore of Lake Łoniewskie. Two themes sit side by side here for planning your trip: seasonal leisure activities by the water and a history of architecture featuring a parish church, a Franciscan complex, a castle and windmills. Which side you give greater weight to depends on whether you are more interested in the lakeside setting or historic buildings.

Lake Łoniewskie

There is a wide beach and leisure facilities at Lake Łoniewskie. Their seasonal availability may vary. If these facilities are important for your stay, take the time of year into account when planning. This means the lakeside location and season-dependent leisure activities remain two distinct aspects.

Parish Church and Franciscan Complex

The parish church in Osieczna dates from 1540 and was remodeled in 1777. Its interior is characterized by Rococo and Neoclassical elements and features stucco altars. The year 1540 refers to the church’s construction, while 1777 refers to its later remodeling. More than two centuries separate the construction date and the remodeling.

East of the parish church stand a late Baroque Franciscan monastery and a church built between 1680 and 1682. The complex was remodeled between 1729 and 1733 to a design by Pompeo Ferrari. Around half a century separates the church’s construction and the remodeling of the complex.

Rococo and Classicism come together in the church interior; the Franciscan complex is late Baroque, while the castle portal is Mannerist. These terms refer to different styles. Sandstone, in turn, names the material of the portal, not its style. This makes it possible to distinguish style, material and specific architectural features. Mannerism is an art-historical style of the late Renaissance, associated with elaborate, sometimes tension-filled forms; in Osieczna, it characterizes the castle portal.

Windmills in Osieczna

Three windmills stand at the end of the road toward Leszno in Osieczna. They are the remnants of a larger group. One mill dates from 1761, while the other two date from the 19th century. All three are currently out of operation. The dates therefore span the 18th and 19th centuries, while their current operating status is the same for all three.

Osieczna Castle

A two-hectare park with mature trees surrounds Osieczna Castle. Two hectares equal 20,000 square meters. At the castle is a Mannerist sandstone portal dating from 1600. The Great Hall features a medieval rib vault. A rib vault is a type of vault in which two curved surfaces intersect. The portal and the Great Hall represent different architectural features: for the portal, style, material and date matter; for the hall, it is the medieval vault type. The park adds a landscape aspect of the castle grounds to these architectural details.
