Discover Orizaba
Accommodation in Orizaba
Explore Orizaba through a range of interests: historic architecture and museums, regional crafts traditions, plants and animals, and theatrical entertainment. If you’re looking for a hotel in Orizaba, you can use these interests as a starting point for your plans. The attractions differ both in subject matter and in format, from museum visits and botanical gardens to a ride through the city.
Architecture and museums
The Palacio de Hierro was designed by Gustave Eiffel and inaugurated in 1894. The building houses five museums. Its outdoor balconies offer an extraordinary view of Orizaba’s historic center. Architectural history, several museums, and views of the city come together in one place. If you want to visit a particular museum, check the current visitor arrangements beforehand, as the individual museums’ operations may change.
The Poliforum Mier y Pesado was declared a National Artistic Monument in February 2014. The Poliforum also features artistically landscaped gardens. It therefore offers both a clearly dated monument designation and its own garden-related appeal when choosing cultural destinations.
At the Museo de Arte Popular de Veracruz, you can see handicrafts from 24 municipalities. The collection is divided into four regional sections: Huasteca Veracruzana, Totonacapan Veracruzano, Altas Montañas, and Sotavento. This layout offers a concrete way to compare the regions during a museum visit.
The Museo de Arte del Estado offers another glimpse into history: the building was used as the San Felipe Neri Oratory in 1776. At the Museo de la Cerveza Orizaba, you can learn about the beer-making process and see an extensive collection of beer containers. The museum topics are distinctly different: crafts, a historic building, and beer production each represent a separate focus. Check the beer museum’s current opening hours before your visit.
Plants and animals at Biori
The Biori Botanical Garden brings together distinctive plants from all five continents. More than 100 free-flying birds live in the “Los Pericos” aviary. The botanical collection and the aviary offer different points of interest: plants from various continents alongside a specific, quantified bird community. This gives Biori two clearly distinct themes within the same garden.
Entertainment and a sightseeing tour
The Dinoparque features dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus Rex and Velociraptors. Nido de Dragones features dragons with sound and motion effects. Casavegas offers a knightly tournament and various shows featuring fairies, witches, musicians, villagers, and members of the royal family. The three attractions differ considerably in content: prehistoric animals, dragons brought to life with effects, and a tournament and show program. If you want to plan your trip around specific themes, you can weigh these differences against one another.
The “Chipi Chipi” train travels through Orizaba and visits several of the city’s most important attractions; the ride takes about an hour. Unlike a single themed venue, the sightseeing tour connects several attractions in one experience. As schedules and prices may change, it’s a good idea to check the latest information before your ride.
