Accommodation in Bluewater
In the Municipality of Bluewater, nature trails, waterfront landscapes, and historic villages offer a variety of ways to shape your trip. Places and attractions can be found in Bayfield, Zurich, and Varna, among others. If you’re looking for hotels in Bluewater, you can start by considering whether you’d most like to hike, observe nature, or experience historic village culture.
Trails for Different Excursions
The trails vary in length, surface, and terrain. The Taylor Trail is about one kilometre long and follows a firm gravel path. It is suitable for strollers and for people who use mobility aids. A longer loop is the 2.5-kilometre Mavis Trail, which passes through coniferous and deciduous forest, includes slopes and stairs, and offers views of ravines and the Bayfield River.
In Bayfield, a five-kilometre loop passes through a forested area with hills and streams. There is a short and a long option, as well as an extension to the Bayfield River. Another, moderately difficult loop along the Bayfield River is about two kilometres long. It leads through the forest to the site of a former sawmill and river crossing; along the way, bridges alternate with grassy and dirt paths, and there are also some steep slopes. The approximate distances give you a guide for planning your excursions without specifying a walking time.
Shorter nature experiences are also available: the River Flats Natural Area in Bayfield is located on a former mill site along the Bayfield River. The Bayfield River Valley Trail Association manages the area for the Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy. Its features include a 0.7-kilometre walking trail, picnic areas, a canoe launch, a butterfly meadow, and an osprey nesting site. The Varna Nature Trails comprise two hiking trails. At Klopp Tract and Commemorative Woods, a walking trail passes through a meadow and a short forest trail leads past a memorial garden; the trail can become muddy after rain.
Nature Observation and Waterfront Landscapes
Close to the destination, Linfield Wildlife Area lies south of Bayfield on Pavilion Road, near the intersection with Goshen Line. Maple and beech forest, streams, and a pond characterize the area; it is also home to a wide variety of birds, trees, and shrubs. Visitors can hike, birdwatch, snowshoe, cross-country ski, and fish. Some trails may be closed seasonally or due to conditions.
Depending on the route, the trails in the Municipality of Bluewater are suitable for hiking, cycling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. Pioneer Park is connected to Bayfield Pier Beach. Its features include open green spaces with trees, picnic benches, mulch-covered paths, a lookout point, and stairs leading to a beach area. The park is not owned by the Municipality; it is operated by the Pioneer Park Association.
At the end of Howard Street West in Bayfield, south of Bayfield Pier Beach, a sandy public beach area lies between Delevan Street and Cameron Street. Access is via stairs; parking is available, but there are no toilets. Please avoid private property. At the end of Sararas Road, beach access via stairs offers views of Lake Huron from the bluff; there is also a lookout point and roadside parking. Beach access conditions may vary.
