Deep River on the Ottawa River
Accommodation in Deep River
Deep River is set in a natural environment on the shores of the Ottawa River and has beaches. You can plan a visit around several specific highlights: a walking tour connects waterfront points, the marina provides access to navigable waterways, and local clubs offer summer and winter sports as well as cultural programs. When choosing what to focus on, consider whether shoreline scenery, sports or a cultural event is most important to your trip.
Shoreline and Waterways
The Deep River Walking Tour is a 4 km loop in the centre of Deep River. It begins at Lamure Beach, a sandy beach, and then passes through a cedar forest. The trail follows the Ottawa River shoreline to Centennial Rock and Deep River Marina, then returns to Lamure Beach. This makes it easy to plan the walk as a loop with several waterfront stops. Trail conditions can change; check them before your visit.
Deep River Marina is on the Ottawa River in Deep River, Ontario, and provides access to nearly 500 km of navigable waterways. This offers a different focus from the walking tour: here, the waterways are the main attraction, while the tour follows a clearly described route through town and along the shoreline. If you would particularly like to focus your trip on the Ottawa River, you can take both into account when planning.
Cross-Country and Downhill Skiing in Winter
The Deep River Cross Country Ski Club maintains 20 km of groomed trails within the town. Its offerings include a Jack Rabbit program for children, a racing program for youth, lessons for adults and equipment rentals. There are also tours, a heated cabin and a wilderness cabin. Participants can enter the Silver Spoon Ski Fest and club championships. Trail maintenance and conditions are seasonal; check with the club in advance about its programs as well.
The Silver Spoon Cross Country Ski Trails are nearby, east of Deep River, on both sides of Balmer Bay Road behind the hospital. The trail network covers 30 km, of which 20 km are groomed and track-set. This gives you another cross-country skiing option alongside the 20 km of groomed trails within the town. Membership arrangements and trail conditions may vary; check them before setting out.
For downhill skiing, Mount Martin Ski Club is located within the town of Deep River. It maintains 12 runs, including a glade run and two terrain parks, and is served by a T-bar lift. A heated cabin with a snack bar offers skiers a place to warm up and relax during the day or at night. Unlike cross-country skiing, the focus here is on downhill runs and lift operations. Terrain and lift operations are seasonal; check with the ski club in advance about seasonal operations.
Summer Activities, Theatre and Golf
The Deep River Shoreline Sports Club, formerly called the Deep River Yacht & Tennis Club, offers a junior sailing school and junior court programs, as well as pickleball, tennis, sailing and rowing. These activities are offered in summer. If you want to plan your trip around one of these sports, check current offerings and participation requirements directly with the club; both may change.
The Deep River Players also contribute to the local cultural scene: the group stages performances two to three times a year and holds public workshops. Since the schedule during your visit matters, check the theatre group’s current dates.
Deep River Golf Club is located on Highway 17 at the entrance to town and is a nine-hole course designed by Stanley Thompson. If golf is part of your travel plans, keep in mind that access and playing opportunities may change, and check current conditions in advance.
