Eganville brings together natural and cultural history, underground passages and geology trails. These different themes can be useful starting points when planning a stay: the Bonnechere Museum focuses on the history of the Bonnechere Valley, the Bonnechere Caves can only be visited on a guided tour, and two geology trails offer different experiences. There is also a named starting point for another activity and the Eganville Tourist Information Centre to help you find your way around town. If you are looking for a hotel in Eganville, you can first consider which of these experiences you would like to shape your visit.

Natural and Cultural History in the Bonnechere Valley

The Bonnechere Museum in Eganville is a living museum dedicated to the natural and cultural history of life in the Bonnechere Valley. Its broad scope offers a way to explore the valley that goes beyond individual geological sites. If you are interested in both natural and cultural history, the museum is a fitting focus for your stay.

Bonnechere Caves: Guided Tours Only

For more than 65 years, the Bonnechere Caves have welcomed people from around the world. They offer safe, educational, informative and entertaining guided tours for all ages. The underground passages can only be visited as part of a guided tour. Up to 25 other visitors and a tour guide are part of the group. Tour operations may change seasonally; check current options before your trip. After visiting the caves, a path leads back through a sinkhole.

Two Geology Trails, Different Experiences

The Recreational Geology Trail opened in October 2012 as the first municipally operated recreational geology trail. It leads to a limestone quarry and a hand-dug trench. The Township of Bonnechere Valley offers it in partnership with the Bonnechere Museum for recreation and educational purposes. The Bonnechere Museum’s Geoheritage Trail, by contrast, offers a 1.5 km walk through nature where you may find fossils. Benches are located along the trail. The season and weather can affect trail conditions; take these factors into account when planning. The difference is clear when choosing between them: one trail leads to a quarry and a trench, while the other combines a nature walk with the possibility of finding fossils.
