Madeira Park – Nature, Art and Harbour
Accommodation in Madeira Park
Explore Madeira Park from different perspectives: nature trails, a nature centre, visual art, historic sites and the harbour each offer their own focus. If you’re looking for a hotel in Madeira Park, these themes can help you choose where to stay based on your travel interests. This way, you can weigh whether nature, culture or boating will shape your choice of destination.
Nature and Trails
The Iris & Billy Griffith Nature Centre, formerly the Iris Griffith Field Studies and Interpretive Centre, is located in Madeira Park and is surrounded by forest trails and restored lowland bog habitat. A floating platform on the pond serves as an outdoor classroom for school groups. The centre offers community tours as well as interpretive programs, workshops and presentations. It thus connects a specific natural setting with opportunities to learn about it.
Another way to enjoy nature is the forest walk at Lily Lake. It passes the lake in Madeira Park, where nesting turtles can be observed. While the walk combines a trail with wildlife viewing, the Nature Centre also offers educational programs and a platform used by school groups.
The Pender Harbour Aquatic and Fitness Centre is located at 13639 Sunshine Coast Highway, in the basement of Pender Harbour Secondary School.
Art and History
In Madeira Park, the Harbour Gallery brings together local visual artists at the beginning of their careers, emerging artists and established artists. Their exchange supports the development of visual art in Pender Harbour. Outside the peak season, the gallery provides studio space for visiting artists and presents solo and group exhibitions.
A self-guided tour of historic sites in the Pender Harbour area also takes you to places in Madeira Park. It offers a different cultural focus from the Harbour Gallery: the tour centres on historic sites, while the gallery focuses on visual art and the exchange between artists.
Harbour and Boating
The harbour docks in Madeira Park offer temporary moorage for boaters year-round. Slocat Harbour Tours departs for harbour tours from the Madeira Park Government Dock. These are different ways to experience the harbour as you plan your trip: moorage for boaters on the one hand, and a tour departing from the Government Dock on the other.
Dining in Madeira Park
A Sunshine Coast Tourism article dated March 14, 2024, describes two dining options in Madeira Park: Triple B's Burger Shack serves classic American burgers, milkshakes, fish and chips, fries and other food from a food truck; Mama's Japanese Kitchen in the town centre serves classic and specialty sushi rolls, as well as Japanese appetizers such as tempura, gyoza, gomae, karaage and sunomono salad. The two cuisines offer different highlights: casual food and fish and chips at one, and sushi and Japanese appetizers at the other. Food and menu offerings may change.
