Discover Coronation
Accommodation in Coronation
Coronation offers a range of reasons to plan a trip: the Roadmaster’s House Museum explores the history of the CPR track crew, while the Coronation Community Golf Course offers a sporting focus. Other options include 5-pin bowling at the Lions Recreational Centre, an outdoor swimming pool and the seasonally changing program of Coronation Performing Arts, featuring music, dance and theatre. If you’re looking for a hotel in Coronation, your preferred activities can help you choose when to visit. Museum opening hours and the golf season may be relevant when planning your trip.
The Roadmaster’s House Museum and its buildings
The Roadmaster’s House Museum in Coronation was built in 1911 to house the CPR track crew and the foreman. Its original purpose gives the house a direct connection to work on the railway line. The museum also includes Wheatridge School, the CPR Bunkhouse and an exhibition building. These three buildings were added to provide additional exhibition space. The complex thus combines the original house with other buildings that provide room for exhibitions. For travellers interested in railway history or historic buildings, this complex is a distinct area of interest.
The museum is scheduled to be open on Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m. in June, July and August. As seasonal hours may change, check whether these hours apply before your visit.
Golf in the Badlands
The Coronation Community Golf Course is nestled in the Badlands. The course has nine holes, a par of 36 and grass greens; it also has a practice putting green. Par 36 refers to the total par for all nine holes. The grass greens describe the playing surface, while the practice putting green provides an additional opportunity to practise. The number of holes, par and course features offer a clear overview, while the Badlands provide the scenic setting.
The golf course is open from May until the first frost in autumn. As seasonal operations may change, check the opening dates before your trip. The clubhouse offers pro shop services; these services may also change. If needed, ask in advance about current offerings.
Bowling, outdoor swimming and live performances
The Lions Recreational Centre has four lanes for 5-pin bowling. This makes it different from a round of golf: here, the game is played on bowling lanes, while golf is played over nine holes. The Coronation Pool Complex is an outdoor swimming pool, adding a water-based activity to the options.
Coronation Performing Arts offers a varied program of music, dance and theatre; the selection varies by season. If you’re travelling for a particular genre, match your travel dates to the seasonal program.
Choose your travel dates based on your interests
The activities have different schedules to consider when planning your dates: the museum is open on Friday afternoons in June, July and August, while golf season runs from May until the first frost in autumn. Coronation Performing Arts’ program changes with the seasons. If one of these activities is the deciding factor for your trip, check the relevant dates before booking your hotel. This will help you plan your stay around what matters most to you.
