Accommodation in Enter
Enter brings together several distinct themes for a stay: the construction and working history of the Enterse Zompen, the tradition of wooden clogs, and ways to explore the Twents Reggedal from the water. When planning, it helps to distinguish between these offerings: De Enterse Waarf and trips on the Regge represent the Zomp tradition, the collections tell stories of crafts and everyday life, and the Wisselmaat Midden Regge walking route is a separate option on foot. This makes it possible to choose a hotel in Enter to suit the interests you want to shape your stay around.
Zompen, Shipyard and Trips on the Regge
The Enterse Zomp is an oak flat-bottomed boat about 12 metres long, with a jib and a mainsail, and is suited to shallow water. Built in 1875, the “Regt door Zee” is the last Zomp built in Enter and is associated with boatman Jans ten Berge. As a flat-bottomed boat suited to shallow water, the Enterse Zomp illustrates the type of construction; the “Regt door Zee” adds a specific year of construction and a named boatman to this picture.
De Enterse Waarf combines a shipyard for Enterse Zompen with an exhibition space. From De Enterse Waarf, it is possible to take trips on the Regge in an authentically reconstructed Zomp. During the sailing season, an approximately one-hour trip on an authentic Enterse Zomp is available at De Waarf in Enter without prior reservation. The approximate duration helps you plan such a trip into your day; check the current schedule in advance.
Ontdek&Doe is an educational and interactive centre where the history of the Enterse Zompen is presented in an engaging way. This brings together the boat’s design, a historic vessel and the interpretation of Zomp history as distinct aspects of the subject.
Clogs and Everyday History
The Klompenmuseum Sköpke presents the history of Enters wooden clogs, the Enters clog-makers and their tools. The museum is closed until the end of 2026 due to renovation. If you are planning a visit for a later date, check the latest information. Enter is also home to the world’s largest clog carved from a single piece of wood. This striking object offers a different focus from the museum’s themes of shoes, craftspeople and tools.
The Oudheidkamer BuisJan features a sweet shop from the days of our grandmothers. Visitors can dress up there in authentic farmer’s clothing. This brings together different ways of exploring everyday history in Enter: a historical shop display, a dressing-up activity and the story of a local craft. These themes can be explored independently of the Zomp tradition and add another cultural focus to your stay.
Waterways and Walking
The Twents Reggedal can be explored on the water in an Enterse Zomp, a canoe or on a SUP board. These options differ first and foremost in the type of experience: a trip in a Zomp, a canoe tour or getting out on a SUP board. The Zomp connects the experience to Enter’s boat-building tradition; the other two options offer additional ways to explore the area from the water.
As an alternative to a trip on the water, the Wisselmaat Midden Regge walking route starts at TOP de Wisselmaat on Enterweg between Wierden and Enter. From its starting point, it follows the red markers of the Wandelnetwerk Twente. Check the markers before your walk, as route signage can change. Water activities and walking therefore offer different ways to plan your time, though no specific duration for the walk can be inferred.
The Enterse Dagen also regularly include a procession. If this event is to be a highlight of your travel dates, check the current event dates before planning your trip.
