Bergentheim offers several different points of interest for a stay: a war memorial, churches with historical context, the canal, routes and leisure activities. If you are looking for a hotel in Bergentheim, you can first decide whether local history, architecture, cycling and hiking, or a specific activity should shape your stay.

Remembrance and historical routes

The Bergentheim war memorial commemorates thirteen resistance fighters who lost their lives fighting the occupying forces during the Second World War. It stands at the intersection of Kanaalweg West and Stationsweg. It is designed as a column with an inset plaque made of white natural stone. Remembrance and historical context are the focus here; the churches of Bergentheim, by contrast, can be understood through their dates, building types and design.

Along the way, the Grensland Liberation Route offers explanations at many historical sites through posters and films accessible via QR codes. A 2026 route listing describes an 18 km cycling sub-route, “Midden,” of the Grensland Liberation Route, featuring VeurMekaar Bergentheim and Museum Klooster Sibculo. The cycling route follows cycle junctions over a distance of about 55 km. The “Midden” sub-route is 18 km long; the cycling route is about 55 km long.

Churches and architectural styles

The Oosterkerk at Kanaalweg-Oost 59 in Bergentheim was brought into use in March 1940. The former Reformed church at Kanaalweg Oost 58 is a hall church with decorative brickwork and a projecting entrance area. The two churches can therefore be distinguished by different details: the date provides a chronological reference point for the Oosterkerk, while the former Reformed church is characterized by its building type and design. The term “hall church” describes a church building with a space laid out as a hall; the decorative brickwork and projecting entrance add specific architectural features to the description of its type.

Canal, hiking and leisure

The canal plays an important role in experiencing the village of Bergentheim. The landscape and connection to the water thus offer another perspective on the village, alongside its historical sites and churches. Two hiking routes are available at Koepelweg. This means that, in addition to culture and architecture, hiking is also an option for your plans; the two routes are a separate offering and should not be equated with the cycling routes mentioned above.

Cripple Creek's Husky Adventures organizes various activities in Bergentheim with 28 huskies. In Oud-Bergentheim, Pluktuin de Melkweg is a flower garden on the Timmermans family's farm. Visitors can pick more than 30 varieties of flowers themselves. The leisure activities have different focuses: activities with huskies on the one hand, and choosing and picking flowers yourself on the other.
