Churches, Procession and Local History

The Basilica of St Peter in Boxtel is a late Gothic cruciform church, built in the 15th and 16th centuries. The term “cruciform church” refers to a church with a cross-shaped layout. Guided tours of the basilica are occasionally available. The highlight is climbing the tower to the first lantern, which offers views across Boxtel. If the tower views are important to your visit, check in advance whether a tour is available on your chosen date.

The Holy Blood Procession in Boxtel takes place every year on Corpus Christi. The date changes from year to year. If you would like to experience the procession, plan your visit around the date for that year.

There is an information board at every stop along the historical route in the centre of Boxtel. Kasteel Stapelen is also part of the town’s history: the castle is more than 700 years old. The surrounding estate lies where the Dommel flows into the centre of Boxtel.

Museums with Different Areas of Focus

The MUBO’s Canon van Boxtel now comprises 49 panels. They cover the most important events, people, objects and works of art from Boxtel. The subjects range from events and notable figures to objects and works of art.

At the Oertijdmuseum, visitors can see how fossils are prepared in two preparation labs. Both labs were added in 2017. For those interested in the work behind a fossil, this offers a different focus from simply viewing finished exhibits.

The Classic Park car museum displays classic and exclusive cars across spacious exhibition areas. Each vehicle has an explanatory panel beside it. The three museums offer different experiences: the MUBO focuses on subjects from Boxtel, the Oertijdmuseum shows how fossils are prepared, and Classic Park displays cars with accompanying information.

Kampina and Outdoor Activities

Kampina still has wet heathland with pools, fragrant bog myrtle thickets, meadows, deciduous forests and purple moor-grass meadows. The Banisveld cultural and historical walking route near Boxtel passes through a less-visited part of Kampina and combines nature with cultural history. It offers a distinct focus if you are interested in how the two subjects connect.

Rondje Boxtel is a canoe trip of approximately 9 km, taking about 2 to 2.5 hours. The distance and duration are approximate and provide a general guide for planning your time. As the operating season may change, check the season in advance for your planned visit.
