Linde combines the history of an Eschdorf with natural areas, hiking opportunities and distinctive local landmarks. If you are considering Linde as a destination for a hotel stay, these different points of reference can help you weigh up the landscape, activities and local history.

Location and landscapes

Linde is an Eschdorf between Zuidwolde and Dedemsvaart, which is in Overijssel. The village developed on a strip of higher sandy ground amid extensive peatland areas. The elevated settlement and the surrounding peatland give the village a distinctive landscape setting. The area around Linde borders the Reestdal region; this regional connection provides additional context for the village. For orientation, it is helpful to distinguish this location in the surrounding area from individual nature destinations.

Heathland, forest and water

North of Linde lies Het Zwarte Gat, a small heathland area with a large peat lake. It is part of the larger De Slagen nature reserve. Here, a specific landscape area and a broader natural area are connected: Het Zwarte Gat refers to the heathland and its peat lake, while De Slagen refers to the larger area. These different scales help you place the nature destinations geographically.

Landgoed Linde is a private forest established in 2003. Forest, ponds and open areas alternate there, and many plants and animals are found there. Its landscape is therefore not made up of trees alone: bodies of water and open spaces are also part of it. The woodland on the Linderesch offers a different perspective on time: much of it dates from before 1900. The establishment of the private Landgoed in 2003 and the age of many woodland areas are two separate facts about the forest landscape.

Hiking and excursions

“Gluur'n bi'j de Buur'n” is a 14-kilometre hike. The distance gives you a specific figure for planning your day, but does not indicate how long the walk takes. The Theaterschuur Linde offers hikes and excursions on and around Landgoed Linde. Het Zwarte Gat and the Reestdal are within walking distance. These are different kinds of planning information: a route with a stated distance and the walkable accessibility of two landscape destinations.

History and landmarks in the village

A work-relief camp was established in the Linderdennen in 1940. This date provides a historical reference point alongside the older woodland on the Linderesch. In the village, a small brink bordered by old oak trees lies at the intersection of Linderweg and Ommerweg. The intersection provides a named point of reference; the Vogelzangsche Wijk still flows east of Linde. Above the hamlet of Pieperij, it continues towards the Hoogeveensche Vaart. The brink and the watercourse thus provide different local points of reference: a square at the junction of two named roads, and a watercourse with its onward route.
