Vigasio can be discovered from several perspectives: through its protected and ecologically significant landscapes, historic churches and a 16th-century villa, as well as the Fiera della Polenta. These topics offer different focal points for a trip. The following local features provide concrete starting points for exploring them.

Watercourses and Landscapes

The SIC/ZPS IT3210008 protected area, “Fontanili di Povegliano,” is located within the municipality of Vigasio. The Tartaro crosses the area at its northwestern edge, which lies between the Tartarello and the Fossa Liona. The Tartaro therefore flows through this landscape, while the other two watercourses define its location.

A different ecological feature lies in the east of the municipality. A corridor runs around the Fosse Solarina and Graicella, starting from the springs that rise there and connecting with the Tartaro corridor southeast of the town center. In contrast, “Fontanili di Povegliano” is located at the northwestern edge. This gives you two distinct landscape features to orient yourself by: the protected area between three named watercourses and an ecological corridor in the east that connects to the Tartaro.

Architecture, Sacred Art and History

The first documented mention of the church of San Zeno di Vigasio dates back to 1004. Villa Portalupi, Farina, known as “La Zambonina,” offers a different architectural highlight: dating from the 16th century, it has three loggias and features Baroque-inspired elements on its façade. A fresco in the left-hand loggia depicts the “monda.” The villa therefore offers a chance to appreciate both its period of construction and façade design, as well as a precisely located pictorial subject.

The Santuario Madonna di Campagnamagra also brings art and the religious calendar together. The sanctuary preserves a 15th-century fresco depicting the Madonna and Child, John the Baptist and Saint Christopher. Every year on September 8, the Santuario celebrates the Feast of the Nativity of Mary. This date provides a clear annual point of reference for planning your trip if you are interested in this religious occasion.

Another historical connection to the town is biographical: composer Italo Montemezzi was born in Vigasio on August 4, 1875. With him, music history joins the churches and villa as another aspect of the town’s heritage.

Fiera della Polenta: Food and Program

The Fiera della Polenta offers a different focus for a trip. During the event, polenta is served daily in a wide variety of styles and combinations, including with Sopressa, mushrooms and Gorgonzola, as well as with Baccalà alla vicentina. The dishes may vary from one edition to another. If polenta dishes are a priority for you, these combinations give a concrete impression of the Fiera’s culinary focus.

The program includes theater performances and live concerts in a heated marquee near the sports facilities. Meetings of classic cars and historic tractors are also part of the program. Alongside the food, the Fiera therefore features stage performances and vehicle gatherings; individual events may vary from one edition to another. If you would like to plan your trip around the Fiera, check the dates and the specific program for the relevant edition.
