Novaglie offers several distinct points of interest to consider when planning a trip: a redesigned public park, the forest route of the Dorsale delle Frazioni “Renzo Giuliani”, and historical and religious sites. When choosing a hotel, it helps to keep your preferred focus in mind: do you want your stay to centre mainly on paths through the forest, a green space in town, or cultural and religious history?

Park on Via della Pineta

On the northern edge of the town centre, on Via della Pineta, is a completely redesigned public park covering about 3,000 square metres. Its facilities include footpaths, benches, a drinking fountain, litter bins and picnic tables. There is also a small play area and garden spaces for children. The park thus combines paths with places to sit and picnic; the small play area and garden spaces for children add to what it offers.

An insect hotel, two nesting boxes and a bird feeder are also part of the park; the bird feeder was donated by WWF Verona. These features give the park a clear connection to insects and birds, alongside its places to relax. When choosing between a green space in town and a route through the forest, the distinction is clear: the park is defined by landscaped areas and facilities, while the Dorsale is defined by a forest path leading to the village.

Forest route and former paths

The Dorsale delle Frazioni “Renzo Giuliani” reaches Novaglie via a path that climbs through the forest to the village on the ridge. A shaded section runs alongside the grounds of a villa as far as the Fontana delle Streghe. The route therefore centres on the forest, a shaded stretch of path and a named destination.

The municipal bus network is also relevant when planning a hike: it serves all the districts crossed by the Dorsale Giuliani, as well as numerous starting and intermediate points. This allows hikers to begin, end or interrupt their walk at different locations. If you want to start and finish in different places, check the current timetable for your specific journey.

The ancient Via Molinara offers a different perspective on the past: it once connected Novaglie with Montorio. Unlike the description of the Dorsale route, the focus here is not on the forest climb to the village, but on a former connection between two places.

Megalith and religious sites

The Pilotòn is a 3.20-metre-high limestone megalith with a phallic shape. Its circumference is 2.05 metres at the base and 1.80 metres at the top. Researchers describe it as a sacred megalith that is said to have been erected at a special site to promote the fertility of the earth; it is probably associated with three nearby Middle Bronze Age villages dating to around 1500 BC. For a trip focused on archaeology, both its precise measurements and the cautiously worded interpretation of its possible significance are therefore relevant.

The Church of Santa Maria Maddalena is located in Novaglie at Via della Chiesa 1, 37142 Verona. Casa San Fidenzio is a diocesan spirituality centre in Novaglie at Via Pradelle 62, 37142 Verona. It offers prayer, retreat and educational activities for laypeople, members of spiritual communities and priests.

On 21 November 1966, the community of Poor Clare nuns moved to a new monastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary on San Fidenzio hill in Novaglie.
