Fumane offers several specific highlights for a stay: prehistoric archaeology, walking routes with views, historic buildings, and wine and olive oil tastings. The places and activities each have their own character. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether landscape, history, or a tasting should be your main focus.

Archaeology and Historic Buildings

The Grotta di Fumane is one of Europe’s most significant known prehistoric archaeological sites. It opens at an elevation of 350 metres in the Parco Naturale Regionale della Lessinia. This makes it a notable landmark for travellers interested in prehistoric archaeology.

The Santuario della Madonna de La Salette offers a different historical highlight: a religious building dating from 1864. It is set in wooded surroundings and offers panoramic views of the vineyards around Fumane. The footpath to the Santuario starts at Fumane’s town hall square. The cave and the sanctuary therefore offer different historical points of interest: prehistoric archaeology on the one hand, and a 19th-century religious building on the other.

Walking Routes, Views and Nature

Two routes offer different experiences. The Fumane Panoramica e Monte Sant’Urbano starts in the centre of Fumane; the path, lined with vineyards, leads to a viewpoint overlooking the valley and the Fumane plain. The Fumane Storica is an easy walking route that passes the medieval church of San Micheletto. When choosing, you can consider whether the viewpoint over the valley and plain or the route past San Micheletto matters more to you.

Another highlight is the Parco delle Cascate di Molina. It has several signposted paths with rest areas and can be reached on foot in a few minutes from the medieval village of Molina di Fumane. The Molina walking route also includes the historic mill Molin de Lorenso, which has preserved its external waterwheel. The Chiesa Vecchia di Cavalo, an old church of Romanesque origin, is also located within the wider municipality of Fumane. The Valle dei Progni near Fumane is known for its abundant water and numerous waterways.

Wine and Olive Oil Tastings

At Cavarena in Mazzurega, Fumane, you can book tours and wine and olive oil tastings by reservation. The gourmet tasting pairs four wines with gastronomic accompaniments selected to complement them. The olive oil tasting is served with crostini made from artisanal bread, black olives, and local cheese. The formats therefore have different focuses: one combines wines and food, while the other pairs olive oil with three specific accompaniments. As dates and offerings may change, check the details in advance and make a reservation.

Scriani offers a tasting of six typical Valpolicella wines in Fumane. Check the booking details for this offering before your trip. This way, you can plan a tasting specifically into your itinerary and clarify the exact conditions in advance.
