Musile Di Piave can be explored through its river history and historic sites. The landscape themes range from the Piave and the Piave Vecchia to a vanished branch of the Meolo; at the same time, the monument and parish church recall specific chapters in the town’s history. This offers more than one way to plan your visit: you can focus on the course of the river, nature routes, or cultural history and remembrance.

The Piave and its waterways

In Musile Di Piave, the Piave was first embanked and later diverted. The course of the Sile is also connected with a former riverbed: the Sile was routed through the old bed of the Piave Vecchia. The Fossetta Canal was created as part of the historic excavation of canals in this area. Embankment, subsequent diversion, an old riverbed, and constructed canals illustrate different ways in which the flow of water has been altered. Those interested in landscape history can thus shift their focus from individual waterways to changes in their course.

At Fossetta, the Via Annia crossed an old, now-vanished branch of the Meolo over a stone bridge. This section of the Via Annia can therefore also be read as evidence of a former watercourse.

Routes along the river and through nature

Route No. 2 starts at the new river port of Musile Di Piave, just downstream of the Ponte della Vittoria. From there, it runs entirely along the right bank of the Piave and continues to Eraclea. Its starting point, destination, and choice of riverbank give this route a clear connection to the river. Three nature routes are also associated with the Centro di Educazione Ambientale “La Piave Vecchia.” They can be completed in a day on foot and/or by bicycle. The Centro di Educazione Ambientale is housed in the former primary school in Castaldia, a district of Musile Di Piave. You can choose between different points of reference: Route No. 2 follows the Piave to Eraclea, while the centre’s three routes combine nature topics with travel on foot and/or by bicycle.

Culture and remembrance

The Monumento al Bersagliere stands at the entrance to the Ponte della Vittoria. It commemorates the Bersaglieri regiments that fought on the banks of the Piave during the First World War. The parish church of San Donato was rebuilt in 1919. The monument and church thus refer to different aspects of the town’s history: the fighting on the Piave and the rebuilding of the church.

Nature topics

The Centro di Documentazione Ambientale “La Piave Vecchia” comprises three museum rooms devoted to the fishing industry, the source river, and the land reclamation landscape. The topics thus range from the use of water to the river and the transformation of the landscape through land reclamation. Together with the routes and historic sites, they offer different ways to shape your stay in Musile Di Piave.
